Thanks guy's for your advice. I have stopped using autoscratch for good. I can now pass hyper 9's and 10s now. I'm getting better, but I need more practice.

OMG I was looking for someone with a similar dilemma and I found this thread. Ok, I just got started with IIDX very recently (I have been playing PC rhythm games for years but it does little to help) and I can barely pass a 5 or 6 with autoscratch. Without autoscratch, I'm looking at Game Overs for almost all my stage 1s and it's really a big turn-off. I need advice (especially from Jeff) about these two strategies I have been thinking about (currently adopting #2):

1. Get back to beginner mode without autoscratch for the next several trips.
2. Play with autoscratch until I'm quite proficient with the 7 keys, and then backtrack a little and start playing with scratch.

In your opinion, which of the two would be a better idea?

EDIT:
On the same note, should a right-hander be using 2P if he's scratching?

the side you play on is entirely preference, neither is better suited for right or left handedness.

Don't use autoscratch. If you learn and then go back it'll just knock you back significantly. It'll ultimately take longer to get to the same level if you use autoscratch than if you hadn't.

You can play Free mode to play without a premature Game Over, though in the arcades you usually only get two stages in Free mode (but it's better than one).

If it's really a huge problem I could probably condone playing on Easy a bit when at the arcade, just for more play time per credit. Learning is learning, just be aware that you can't play on Easy forever. No reason to at home.

Thanks for the input, guys. I only play IIDX at the arcade, so maximizing play time is pretty important for me. I'll try out Easy if it doesn't affect judgement (from what I read from the FAQ here, it's just a reduced drop rate and an increased recovery rate of the health bar), and Free if it does.

Last Resort:

Only play avant-guerre in public. No one would know the difference lol.

Once again, thanks to you guy's, I have stopped using autoscratch altogether. It's actually pretty fun using scratch. I'm off autoscratch for good yay!

Unless you're trying to unlock mnemoniq (I find it quite messed up that by the time you get it, you can probably clear it on Another).
