I suggest Happy Sky; it was my first style, and I think it has the best songs for progression since all the levels have several ranges of difficulty to help you get better (ie. Garden and Aurora for 7s, and Lesson 5 and Gekkou for 8s)

My biggest frustration at the moment is that I've been stuck trying to get through level 8 for one and a half years.
Of course now I can pass about 9/10 of them but still there's 1/10 of them I am no where near passing....
'tis annoying

Have you tried Endless Summer Story [h] on Happy Sky? I feel that's a really good 6 to start with.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys. I'll definitely give those a shot. I also have a lot of trouble with various combinations of white and black keys, so I decided to practice level 4's and 5's with Random+ and Sudden+. It's actually helped a lot. I can feel my reaction time become much quicker, and my hand placement more refined.

Some people takes longer to get good at the game. Others (like me) played too much to get to where they stand right now. The important thing is that you are having fun while you play, that's what kept me playing all this time. I used to play 8 to 10 hours every day probably more....

You know, when you phrase it like that, it sounds like I'm the special kid of the class. "He takes a little longer to learn." But no, I understand what you mean. Since I came home for Winter break, I've been playing for hours on end. I don't really turn my PS2 off anymore, so I switch back and forth from PC to Beatmania. I've noticed improvement, so I'm happy about that. I've only been playing for about two months now, so I'm satisfied with the progress I'm having.

Try some 9s; there are some outrageously easy ones out there like One More Lovely, Frozen Ray, Captivate Jouka, and the another of We are Diskko. I know those are all on HS CS, can't think of any immediate examples elsewhere...

Does anyone know any easy 10s?

FIRE FIRE and オレはビートマニア!お前は何マニア? (if you can handle the scratching at the end) are easy. Maybe Time to air too. I'm terrible at naming songs.

The main thing I'm fraustrated with is the jump in difficulty from 6 (N) to 7 (H). It goes from a nice challenge to "yea, let's practice using our thumbs as the only way to clear the song".

Still can't pass more than two 6* songs. I nearly broke my controller over my frustration. Guess it's time to call it a night.

Agreed on Time To Air [h] (or rather the whole song in general).

This song is apparently easy relative to its stated difficult (in the game). For instance, I was able to Hard Clear its hyper chart twice the first time played DJT in Hong Kong (and that was a machine set to game difficulty level 6). I even got A on both tries and hard cleared them (which rarely happens when I do waxing and wanding [h]). So there.

Advice for everybody "stuck" at a level (i know this works up through 10*s, the 11 wall could be different...).

Switch! Styles!

1) Put in a different style, that you haven't played to death lately
2) Turn on Hard, increase your Sudden+, lower your HS
3) Turn on ghost and Goal A/AA/AAA (Depending on your timing. Something you can get sometimes but you really need to work for.
4) Start with stuff thats really easy and work your way up, playing every single song
5) Don't get stuck on songs. Maximum of 3 plays, unless you're "thiiiiiis close to passing", then maximum of maybe 5 or 6 plays.

I was pretty much stuck at 9*s playing RED. I could pass a few of them, but not very well, and I even got a 10* (Resonate 1794 Random, its super-easy). I then played through DD, 4*-9*, and Gold, 1*-5*. I popped in Troopers, and in 2 sessions passed 37 of 40 9*s. When I came back, the wall wasn't even there anymore.

1. yes. This is true for the most part.
2. oh god why? if you're having trouble with normal clearing songs a hard clear for a difficulty you're just getting into is gonna destroy you.
3. Scoring and Clearing are entirely different. also Ghost is fucking ugly and destroys your view of the lanes.
4. ow.
5. Play however many times in a row you want. I know it took me at least 20 consecutive plays to pass AA [A] for the first time.

1. glad we agree
2. see 4, also more sud+ and less HS does help with reading.
3. true, the point of this and 2 are to get good at playing easier songs (timing/not missing) because it makes harder stuff easier, Ghost doesn't hinder me AT ALL. Beside, you can set ghost on the side.
4. see 2.
5. 'playing variety' isn't going to help with first passes on hard 12*s. That'll take a ton of practice on that one song. this is for general improvement. The point is to not get stuck. Its the same reason as playing with random.
