Thanks regarding help on scales. It's getting a little better, but this wall is a bit frustrating. Another question I have is regarding hitting 1+2,3,4,5,6,7. Since I hit 1+2 as 1[left thumb] with 2[left index], I have to hit 3 with the right thumb, and the scale becomes quite awkward to hit, let alone time. Any tips? Sorry if this is hard to understand.

Hmm......

There are many ways to approach this problem. It all lies in what works for you the best.

Personally:
I guess that after the 1+2 chord, I'd catch the 3 with my left index and then the remaining of the keys, I'd just use any of my right hand fingers to do the work.

Playing random prepares you for weird hand patterns as well. If you play random even if you start to fail BAD keep playing til the end and improve from there.

Yup I agree.

Even more though (aside from nonrandom and random) is to try out stuff like mirror, random+mirror (though I dunno what it really does) and s-random (which converts it into jackhammers I think) as well.

It's all part of being exposed to different arrangements (as mentioned)

P.S.
I never really understood the purpose of random+mirror (in PS2 versions) and how it differs from just using random. I mean, how can you mirror something that is already re-arranged? It's already randomized so just adding mirror does nothing(?) since getting the "inverse" of a randomized chart = still random.

Does anyone get the logic of this?

Random normally makes it so it is impossible to get the normal chart, so random+mirror simply makes it impossible to get the mirrored chart.

S-random randomizes each note position individually, so that's why it tends to cause a lot of jackhammers (which can be fixed by H-random as long as they're 16ths or closer)

I'm assuming your playing left side. Try hitting 1+2 with two finger: left ring and middle finger. I'm guessing your trying to do a scale after the chord, try your left thumb to hit 3, then left index/right index on 4, right thumb 5, right index/middle 6, right ring 7.

You should buy a PS3~ LOL. It's region free so if Sirius does go to the PS3... You won't have to mod it. :'D And.... PS3 has LittleBigPlanet.. <3 I got my PS3 for a discount~ But it was last year around X-mas... :]

just stick with bmus and if youre still playing beatmania when sirius comes out youll know which system to get instead of making a guess now

youll also have enough money saved up by that point so that if it does something like go to 360 you can afford the controllers to play the game because you wont be able to use the ps2 tables

speculation on which system itll go to is pointless until sales of empress are confirmed to be enough for home ports to keep coming

Konami would be smart to put it on both the 360 and the PS3 imo, as it has been seen a lot of games that used to be exclusives on Playstation consoles have gone over to the 360 as well. The controller issue is problematic. I know I'm not willing to shell out more $ to get another IIDX controller for a new console.

Wow, those are some pretty neat yet concise explanations (though I hope don't forget these hehe).

I guess I'm starting to understand the actual purpose of this ran+mirror (though Konami took it out in the arcade versions though).

Anyways, thanks again for the explanations. It's most definitely appreciated

A bit of a late response, but thanks for all the replies. Now I'm playing mainly 4s and a few 5s, but never passing them. I've been using the one-handed fingering you all suggested, and it's been working well, though I do have sometimes have to hit consecutive keys with one finger.
Where on the screen should I be looking as I play? Right now, my main problem is timing, particularly at parts where two keys just alternate a lot like in Apocalypse (Normal), and reading, especially when there are lots of chords. I look near the middle of the chart, though more recently I've been looking at the notes right before they hit the bar, and I think that's working better. I think reading will get better with practice, but how would I improve my timing? Even in DDR, my timing was never that great, but here, I always get more Goods than Greats, and more Greats than flashing Greats, and when two keys quickly alternate, it usually starts as Great or Good, and then my timing deteriorates from there.

Thanks for the help.

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to IIDX, but I went ahead and bought a JPS2 with Happy Sky and a US KOC a while back (maybe three weeks ago-ish?). I got comfortable with playing around the 6-7 level on Normal, usually getting an A or AA on 6's. I went to a friend's house the other day, and he had 7th style. I found the timing to be horribly awkward! Everything was really early to me. Is this just something that I'll have to live with if I want to play the older styles?

P.S. I did have to modify the timing in Happy Sky for it to feel right, so that may have something to do with it.
