Thanks for the tips. :] I'm leaning towards getting that out of my system now but using, say, my ring and middle finger feels awkward unless I point my fingers down almost vertically, and using my right hand seems slightly inefficient but that might be due to me not getting a solid feel for the locations of the keys under my fingers sort of thing--this definitely produces the best timing.

I started with a BMUS bundle mostly because it's probably the cheapest way to get into IIDX to gauge whether or not you'll like it before putting anymore time and money into it. For $70USD I got the game and the controller, and (as expected) I really enjoyed the game. The songlist has a few (okay maybe five) songs I liked but I ran into a wall early on where I was either able to pass something incredibly easily or fail miserably. I learned early on in order to actually get any better at the game (and play the fun songs that I really liked from Stepmania) BMUS just wouldn't cut it.

Okay...For chords (next to each other, encountered my first today) I started using 2 fingers or so alternating between them...Ofc I missed alot but it seemed to work without screwing me up too much

Also A'd my first higher up song today, HONEYPUNCH Twice in a row too. Lv4 Standard on my 2nd day of BM (at least some of the lv4 ones) isn't bad right? I tried some lv5 ones (like R5) but the annoying thing was that as alot of people mention, the ending sucks my whole lifebar down. I was up to 90% on R5 and then it whittled down to 20% again

Oh and I tried FASCINATION MAXX on Easy (or hyper, the blue one, I don't know the names yet xD). I failed, lol. But I like the song :3 It only seemed too easy when I played it as Beginner lv3.

Ohwell, tomorrow I'm gonna play some more, it's addictive especially once I got the hang of Honeypunch and seeing that A even though I did some misses :p

Gamewise, I'll try hitting up 6th or 7th style, and maybe 9th. Those seem to be the 3 people are talking about for beginners when it comes to japanese styles. I'm gonna pass on BMUS, don't think it'll penalize me...heh. For anyone wondering, it's just cause I haven't seen the bundle anywhere and the cheapest I got to a controller was on this site .

(About the controller, eh...Mine stucks key 3 and 5 (middle bottom 2) sometimes. Probably cause the controller has been a bit used but I think this should go away after some usage right?

Does anyone think that Lunatic Rave is a good Sim for PC btw? Thinking of putting a whole install thogether on my laptop and use it as portable BM fix skinned with background videos.

The Blue difficulty is Normal. You shouldn't be trying Fascination MAXX at all right now, as it's an 8 (even though it's an easy 8).
Also, you might want to be aware that styles before 12th (Happy Sky) do not have the 12 rating scale (though it doesn't matter at this point, as lower difficulties were more or less the same on the old scale) and styles before 9th do not have a high resolution interface.
I personally started on DistorteD, so it's not necessary to have 6th, 7th, or 9th to progress well (though I've heard that Distorted is not a good beginner's style)
Sticky keys is not a problem that goes away with time, in fact it probably gets worse. I have no experience with average sticky keys though (even though I've been playing for 20 months), so I don't know how well different methods of fixing it work.

You can fix a sticky key by finding a thin piece of cardboard, and cutting circles out to place in-between the key and the rubber sensor (requires you to unscrew the keyboard and then remove the pcb, which is very simple). On my KOC I actually used a small piece of cardboard plus a piece of folded paper folded over once for every key. I found that two pieces of cardboard was too much, but one wasn't enough, and amazingly the micro difference between the cardboard and a folded sheet of paper was just right.

Also, when keys still stick, you can take a pair of scissors and grind them across the location that is sticking (without taking the controller apart) and this will grind away the part of the key that is sticking against the black plastic of the controller. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you get angry enough and have some scissors nearby, it will probably just happen on its own.

Beatmania sims for the most part aren't really worth bothering with, especially if your working on improving.

Timing issues abound, and it's very rare for them to sync perfectly. I messed with them for a little bit before deciding I just wasn't getting anything out it. It doesn't feel the same as actually playing 2dx, its not fun.

To be fair, I spent a great deal of time playing BM98 and bemani2dx between my introduction to beatmania and finally getting my consoles and controllers necessary to play. But that was strictly on keyboard...which I honestly can't say is ideal in any way at all. At the time though, beatmania was a completely new idea to me and it was pretty much the coolest thing in the world :p

Default Arcade rips

Ok so I'm sure that this is probably taboo on here and if it is I apologize for bringing it up. I know downloading stuff is not the best idea and you should support good companies like Konami but I downloaded the Arcade HDD rip of DJ troopers and I just had a few questions. I have a HP laptop with: dual 2.0ghz AMD processors, 2gb of ram, and a nvidia 7150m graphics card, and Windows XP. Is this good enough to run beatmania lag free? Also what would be a good usb connector for the controller. I have the radioshack Playstation to USB adapter which I used to use for Stepmania, would this be sufficient? Thanks I plan on buying beatmania IIDX Empress if I enjoy this one. Again sorry if I am breaking forum rules by mentioning the arcade hdd rips here, I'm just trying to get a feel for the games before I go out and spend a couple hundred dollars.

Regardless of the situation, discussing piracy of any sort (let alone running CHDs) is a DIRECT violation of site policies. I don't know why people have such a hard time understanding that.

Thank you so much for the useful information.......look the only reason I bothered to mention it on here was because several other posts were made discussing the isos for playstation 2. And I was apologetic, so no need to get on a high horse about the situation. Thanks again for the help.

I'm trying to point out that it's grounds for a temporary ban. Just because you make it clear that you know you're breaking site rules doesn't mean it's OK. Every time a thread comes up about isos or CHDs it basically consists of "in before lock" posts followed by a thread lock. Look back a couple pages, the last time it happened was like a week or two ago.

I'm sure there are people that would be more than happy to help you get Lunatic Rave set up if you're looking for a less expensive way to preview the series. If you're going to take the illegal route you're going to have to look somewhere other than bemanistyle for help with it.

Edit: just noticed the thread in question is actually still on the first page of the forum.

So I'm taking it that software and hardware manipulation with a system is perfectly legal then?

and isn't a simfile that is supposed to represent a song in the actual games, with the same note setup more or less stealing copyrighted material?

look at me trying to justify piracy, by using open source emulation software and subsequent data as a scapegoat.

Shut the hell up.

no I'm just saying that if you are going to pick me apart for talking about harddrives then what about that. And thanks for the nice etiquette. You people on this forum are real friendly.

You should have gone to the place where you got the HDD data for advice.

Or did you come here because you're a leech and got banned because you can't understand ratio policies as well?
