Marketplace Rating: 0 | I have a question: I am currently preparing to buy a US PS2 from my local gamestop, and I was wondering what the best places to find the US Beatmania and WORKING controllers.
So far, I've only played Beatmania on MAME and I really want to use a real controller for a change.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | The best place to find a KOC of any variety would really to place a WTB thread in the marketplace here or some other bemani site.
Beatmania US (the actual game) is incredibly common you should have no problem finding it used in a GameStop for around 10 bucks.

So far, I've only played Beatmania on MAME and I really want to use a real controller for a change. | Beatmania US is available at most GameStops for $9.99 used. As for the controller, check the Marketplace forum here on Bemanistyle (link here: Trading & Marketplace - Bemanistyle [dot] com Forums), eBay, or Amazon
You should be able to find a controller for around $30ish bucks, if you get the US one (which is, frankly, a much better controller than the Japanese one).

The buttons are just harder to press and travel further (thereby making it nigh impossible to time worth a damn if you're used to a jkoc. Seriously I don't get timing issues going from my controller to arcade but I'll B songs I normally AAA on a uskoc.)
Everyone I know that plays seriously has had them basically self destruct internally under normal use, all of the aligning tabs breaking off of the keys.
The keys on the jkoc are more prone to sticking, sure, but if you just take care of the damn thing, keep it clean, wash your hands before playing if you need to, there should be no real issues at all. It took 5 years for my controller to develop any sticking issues and even then they were easily remedied by adding a bit more cardboard to the keys.
The turntable on my jkoc has never been modded in any way and works amazingly. Every uskoc I've used has had horrible stiff turntables, even after modding.
The uskoc footprint also blows, the placement of the feet due to the curved side makes them much less effective in keeping the controller from shifting as you use it, a problem I've never experienced with the jkoc. Furthermore, if you play with the controller in your lap it's going to be a lot less convenient trying to rest the uskoc on your legs, also due to the curved side.
Ultimately, the uskoc just FEELS cheap as hell. The jkoc has a much more solid and professional feel to it, down to even the cord. There is nothing superior about the uskoc aside from the fact that it is significantly less expensive.

I started off on a USKOC then I bought a JKOC and was like "Holy shit why didn't I get this first".

There is nothing superior about the uskoc aside from the fact that it is significantly less expensive. | This was actually a big help. I thought a USKOC would be better because of price and availability, but from what you said, I think a JKOC would end up being the better deal. Now that I got that out of the way, now I have to find out what I'm going to do with my choice of CS.
My plan is to hope that Sirius CS will end up on the PS3 and just buy a PS3 and import it since I don't want to mod my PS2 in any way. It will be a long wait, but I think it might be my best bet. Does this sound like a good idea? I would mod my PS2 if it wasn't for the lack of a provided service in my area.

If you wanna get into the series you're going to want to have access to all the mixes (well, you dont have to have them all right off the bat, but the ability to play them)
From a beginner standpoint going with a fliptop would be much better. And seriously, it's a super easy install. Just be a little careful with the part that has the eject and reset buttons on it and there's nothing to mess up at all.
If you have a slim I hear it's even easier.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | @aroomwithaview: Well I heard that Empress CS will be the last PS2 CS. So I am going to assume they will continue the series on PS3 for Sirius CS. So I doubt that there'll be lag there. Though the info is helpful though. Dang PS3's backwards compatibility!
@Deca: I've heard of that mod. You open up the top half and block the sensors to the disk tray so it can't tell if it's open. Then you just swap the discs (can't remember when though but it should be easy to find).
Is that the mod you're talking about? I've considered that, but I have heard that the trick only works with PS1 games. Or is what I've heard incorrect? If it works with all games then maybe I might try doing that. It will certainly cut the costs and waiting time of setting myself up.
