I'm planning on buying a LCD monitor in which to use with my computer and PS2, and was wondering what would be the best way to display beatmania on it with the least lag as possible. Would it be better to get something along the lines of the [ this], and convert component to vga to a standard LCD, or to have to the component input going directly to the monitor, like on this dell LCD [here].
(I'd rather not use a TV-in card, seeing as it supposedly will create more latency between me hitting the keys and what is shown on the screen.)
So, from your experience, what would be the best setup to take?

One product you might want to check out is DVDO by Anchor Bay, but dang, 2000 bucks for just the lower model?
You might want to check out the TV's inappropriate for IIDX topic, which has some advice on typical LCD's questions and answers, but not all. My advice to you is research on the LCDs you're interested in and test them at local electronic retailers with your ps2, music games, controller, etc.
Another guide you might want to check out on LCDs (and HDTVs in general) is this link here which has comprehensive info about HDTV's and Lag. It offers suggestions on how to eliminate or reduce lag and much much more.
Oh yeah, to answer your question, I'll rather get a upscan converter because people complained about "moderate to high input lag" when playing FPS games on it.

Works well. Transfers from your composite/S-Video to VGA without any kind of actual processing. PS2 outputs VGA image anyway.

The major benefit to this is that this will fix all interlacing related lag and screen tearing so a good amount of the lag is eliminated. I know that some Gamestops have it in stock for $30. The downside is that this solution will only work on 9th Style and newer games as the older releases don't run at 60 fps natively and will go offsync. I will state though that due to how early the newer releases are (With the exception of Happy Sky's late timing, which can be adjusted thanks to the timing offset option) this might be a blessing in disguise.

Did you happen to get any ghosting or lag through the component input?
I might take a look into the Xploder, seeing as that may be the best option right now, but I'ma take a trip best buy to test out some monitors first. I'd get the grandtec if it had component input, though.
I'm also looking at [this] screen as an alt. to the dell.

You basicallyplug the GRB cables in one end, and huck a VGA cable into the other... Does that sound about right?

You know what? Oneday when I'm at work and have some free time, I'll take along my PS2 with DDR and see if there's lag with it. (DDR because I don't wanna lag all that stuff to work.) Plus I'm there to work, not play games. But since I'm with tech support, I sometimes get VERY slow days, so I end up being here or somewhere. So yeah, I'll test it out... I just have to get my HD cables back from my friend.

Just a quick question.

Ok, when I say RGB, I mean RedGreenBlue cables. Is that the right thing?
I have a box where you plug the RedGreenBlue cables into one end and the 15-pin VGA cable into the other. It should send the image to a VGA monitor or LCD with that port on it...
Well I don't have a monitor like that at home, so I tried it at work. (I have spare time to do this sometimes. :P ) Well, it ALMOST KINDA worked... but.... I can never figure out the exact settings. There are 7 little switches on the back that controle different things. Switches 1-3 contral 480p, 720p, and 1080i/640p ( think it's 640p anyway). Switch 4 is either composite Out or H Drive Out depending on which way you seitch it. (I have no idea what H Drive is.) Switch 5 is possitive/negative Out. Switches 6 and 7 are unknown to me.
I tried putting it to autoset the screen, but that didn't work.
So basically I goofed around and kept flipping different combonations of switches to see what happened. Sometimes I'd get a message on the scree that said something like "1. Anolog does not support this video mode. Optimal resolution 1060x ????x) I can't remember exactly.
The monitor I'm using is a Dell E228WFP. That's a 22" flat widescreen LCD. I'm not sure of what modes it can output either. I tried looking at Dell, but that didn't hlep much.
Any suggestions.
Oh, I got the picture to show up ONCE. But there were like two images of it on the screen at once. I'm sure I could've fixed that with the horizontal change, but stillm that's why I KNOW this can work... I just have to figure out the settings. Or do I need to do something with the PS2.
I don't know why these cost so much now.
