What is the best way to mod it to play imported games? it's american PS2.
And then, are there american stores that sell IIDX HAPPY SKY/DISTORTED/GOLD? Is it better to purchase from someone on THIS forum or an online store (but it can't be an import)? basically my mom won't let me buy from overseas but i can from within america .__. thanks!
(this goes for Pop too) | |

So, I know a lot of people who swear by the flip top mod, and a lot of people who swear by Swap Magic. Out of the two, Swap Magic is the easiest. I don't have a link to a site that sells it, but I'm sure someone else does.
As for the games...
I have no clue where you live so I can't give you any real direction. I know of a few places in Southern Cali who will pick up imports and sell them in their store upon request. But the problem with that is waiting, it takes a good deal of time. Now, there's no problem with using the Marketplace here on the site (I recently discovered it a few months back, and oh man I have spent way to much money there). Only problem is, come new game time I don't think people will be selling them much on the Marketplace. Another alternative is Ebay.

I can't imagine why your mom won't let you buy from an overseas online store, but I guess that's what you get for using mommy's money. You can try the marketplace and ebay, but it's still possible the seller will be overseas.
And, I really hope you are female.

However, if you bought from an overseas website, like playasia, you could use a credit card. The website has encryption software and many people can vouch that the site is reputable.
This isn't a scam like those people tricked into investing money to help some prince escape Nigeria to be handsomely reimbursed. There are no money orders and you can be assured the reputation of the website, unlike marketplace and even ebay.
If there's no bargaining and you still can't purchase from one of those online stores your best bet will be something along the lines of what afex was mentioning.

i've been watching some youtube vids and i'm really liking the song selection like poodle, i am, xepher, ヒマワリ. Is there a style with more jpop (and what are some good jrock songs)?

I guess Memories, JAM, Key and Bleeding Luv would be jrock songs? I can't say which style has more jpop, but you'll find quite a bit on each one.

Happy Sky is ok, but I prefer DistorteD myslf. Either that or 10th Style.
If you have a big PS2, a bettter mod would be a hard drive if you don't feel like goofing around with a bunch of dsics, but then again, it is a bit more complicated.
If you have a slimline, the tissue, paper mod would be the best.
There was one place that sold SM REALLY cheap, but they stopped doing that.
If you google, you can find Swap Magic for about $22. Check around first though. Don't pay $30 for it if you don't need too.
There are different types of Swap Magic. Make sure MAKE SURE YOU GET THE NTSC VERSION!!! It MUST be NTSC (USA) because if you get the PAL version then it'll be just like buying a JP game so that won't do you any good.
You will also see things like Swap Magic v3.6, v3.6+, v3.8 coder.
and an odd one Ultimate.
v3.6: This is a pretty good one. (One I have.) It comes with a CD (for booting CD games) and a DVD (for booting DVD based games. [IIDX])
v3.6+: I'm not sure what's so different about this one, but I think there are a few added features. It also has a CD and DVD for booting games.
v3.8 coder: To understand this one, think of what would happen if Action Replay fused with Swap Magic. You can use cheats along with the swap magic function. I'm not sure about how all the codes work. It also comes with a CD and DVD for booting games.
Ultimate: This is one I'm not too sure about. It only has one disc I THINK. It also has a lot of other little things you can use such as HD Loader, media players and a bunch of other stuff.... I doubt you'll need this. I recently ordered one to see how it works.
I suggest you just go with v3.6.
Hope that helps and welcome to Bemanistyle.

On topic: most styles have a fairly varied amount of music. You should probably be more concerned about functionality. In other words, I would have prescribed these two following styles for their music:
7th:
Let the Snow Paint Me
Happy Wedding
Glorious Days
More Deep (ver. 2.1)
9th
Dreamin' Sun
Hyper Eurobeat
Let the Snow Paint me (Y&co)
Lights
LoveLoveShine
Rislim Remix
Silvia Drive
SweetSweet (heart)Magic
Traces -tracing you mix-
真夏の花・真夏の夢
Murmur Twins
However, neither of these two styles are beginner friendly compared to the newer styles (what with good beginner modes, .5 speed increments, choosing speed in song, Sudden+[!] etc.)
Your best bet (since you seem to be a "cutesy" type of person) is indeed Happy Sky.
was there even a point to this post?
