Default BMUS Pin Method

Hey there,

Long time lurker and player of Beatmania and keeping up to date with Bemanistyle here. I've built my own controller with poker keys and have gotten my skills up to about 9/10 songs, and have recently moved from Australia to Canada.

Now the EB in Canada had a copy of Beatmania US with a controller, so I decided to get an NTSC PS2 and the bundle because i havent had a controller with the turntable before. The US one is okay, but I have a ton of simfiles from my use of my own controller i'd like to play with, and what a nightmare this seems to have put me in.

I'm going to get a PSX>USB converter tomorrow from the store, but will this do me any good? As I said i've lurked this forum for years, joined but haven't made much use of this account, But i've read a fair share of problems with the BMUS controller.

I seem to remember someone finding a fix for this, it was as simple as crossing a wire, soldering two pins together or something. I've done a 2 hour search over the forum and have found nothing, so I'm asking here:

Is there a mod, or any way to stop the BMUS controller from jittering/lagging/lockouting ?

In one post someone said there was a pin that the PS2 doesnt use and thats what causes it, can someone confirm this or confirm what pin this is?

Any help greatly appreciated, and actually help like this should probably be added to the FAQ or something.

tl;dr BMUS controller jitter and pin crossing.

different voltages from different makes of the BMUS controller.

It's a "gambol" man. It's either gonna work or it isn't from what I know about the controller.

Thanks for the tip. I went through a few tests and i found the following, ill write it here for other people that will search the forum, just like I have to help.

The Beatmania US controller, BMUS , is thought to have a lockout system that detects power on the 8th pin, making the lag. I bent down the 8th pin (listed as 'not connected' on a PS2 pinout) and it made no difference. If your PS/PC connecter is giving you lag, it most definately will be the converter and not the controller. The Adapter i found to work is the TAC Antcommandos PS2 to PS3 converter with Rockband/Guitar Hero 3/General Selector, set to general and using xpadder to remap the POV hat seen as the scratch and the last button.

Advice is to look for PS2 to PS3 converters, because they work on PC too. I'm running vista btw too. The lag was close to unnoticable even without the USB frequency changed.

Hope this helps future IIDX players.

now when you say unnoticable lag, what level of IIDX do you regularly play at.

Because no lag for a lvl 6 player def isn't the same for a lvl 12 player.

I mean, there is no extreme level of noticable lag on a level 10 song, it is still fun to play and I have AA'd. If you could see lag and find it a problem above level 10, then you should have / invest in something better then the BMUS controller, agreed?
