Marketplace Rating: 4 | Buying a 100HZ Widescreen CRT... And was wondering if it's going to have any lag when I'm playing the game? I've read about lag with 120hz TVs on here, but I couldn't find any info on whether a 100hz WS CRT would have any lag. Anyone able to answer this?
Here's the info on the TV:
Sony KV - 32LS65AUS
-100 Hz picture, Digital Plus.
-Teletext, Fastext, TOPtext (250 page TEXT memory).
-Picture in Picture.
-Nicam Stereo.
-Component input.
-Dolby Virtual.
-BBE.
-Sleep Timer.
-Auto Format
COMES WITH
1 Remote Control (RM-934)
2 Batteries (IEC designated)
1 Scart adaptor
2 Scart cables
Matching Sony cabinet SU32LS60 (designed specially for this TV)
Link to manual - http://www.sonytrade.co.nz/productdocs/EH32LS65.pdf
Cheers in advance.

Anyways
It really depends on your source imho.
The PS2 outputs at 30 hz (probably 25 hz if your unit is PAL).
So if your content is in multiples of 30 frames, then 120 hz is more suited.
Otherwise, if your content is in multiples of 25 frames, then 100 hz is best suited.
P.S.
But before all else?
I never knew that CRTs even had motion reproduction (or frame interpolation).
I thought that stuff is only for newest HDTVs (most esp. LCDs since they need that stuff due to their poorer motion handling).

Marketplace Rating: 1 | The number of hz a television displays is the number of times that the screen refreshes each second, so a 100hz television refreshes the screen twice as fast as a normal 50hz television, resulting in less flicker.
I use a similar Sony Wega 100hz 28" tv with a Japanese PS2 in the UK and I think it works great for IIDX, certainly far better than any HD tv available at the moment.
I also thought that the problem with 120hz was for LCD's only and the difference between response time and refresh rate. Don't these make very little or no difference to the actual delay compared to the poor quality upscalers which cause the problem of lagging.
Hmm, why can't someone develp a decent tv which is designed specifically for using old 480 resolution sources and stop this problem...
There must be other people besides rhythm gamers who would benefit from such a product!

Yet unfortunately, majority of HDTV manufacturers don't give a shit nowadays about improving video quality of SD signals.
Unless of course, your Toshiba.
In my opinion though, I can only see one effective way of solving this problem:
BM IIDX needs to be a progressive game (and not an interlaced game)
That must be a priority (before they decide to make this into a PS3 game after year 2010).
Though, people may not see this as a non-issue anymore with the introduction of the timing adjustment thingy feature (that started with HS for PS2).
Just my two cents

You'll never really get a good game unless you can force the TV to do an NTSC resolution at 60hz. As many problems that we have here in the US with these things, you guys in NZ, or the EU have even more to contend with dealing with PAL to NTSC conversions and such. See if you can try it out in the store before you buy, chances are that you may find an even better TV, and maybe for cheaper than what you'd pay for this one.

The TV does say it has an NTSC mode, so maybe that makes it run at 60hz? Ah well, I'll keep my shitty old TV as a backup incase this one doesn't work how I would like it to. Thanks for all the info so far.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | It's not that the CRT itself would cause the notes to stutter, but rather the increased frame rate, since it doubles the frames that it normally receives, it may cause some stuttering, I think I remember this from the other thread where someone bought a 120Hz TV.

Hmm..........
Well this really sounds interesting. The numerous posts gave me better insight (as well as learn things that I didn't know).
Anyways
As many would say, if you want an LCD TV, get the latest Sharp Aquos LCD TV.
Only problem is that Sharp Aquos TVs often have BANDING problems so be careful.....

In all seriousness though, interesting stuff. I'd always assumed that a TV wouldn't lag on account of it simply being a CRT. Haha. Well, it'll probably be a while before I upgrade. My current TV may be ten years old, but thankfully, it handles IIDX beautifully (for now). | |

Though according to M4j3s7ic12 it shouldn't be a problem as he is using a similar TV. However, if it does stutter or lag, I guess I'll just resell the thing. :P Getting it quite cheap anyways.

Marketplace Rating: 4 | So I got the TV today and gave it a thorough testing on IIDX 5th and IIDX Gold. There appears to be a tiny bit of note stuttering when I play Vanessa on 2.5 speed, however, apart from that, it's perfect. Completely in-sync and the picture looks great. Pretty happy with the purchase.
