Correct playstyle?

Iv just started using my thumbs in IIDX recently and it has helped my scores alot, but I was wondering, is reserving your thumbs for keys 3 and 5 a good idea for when you move on to higher difficultys? Stuff like 8-12's? Or should my thumbs be doing different keys occasionally?

There is no correct playstyle. Just play how you want and move your fingers fast.

As everyone will say here... Play however feels comfortable to you.

agreed. this is one of those games where people evolve their own way of hitting the keys. everyone picks up their own unique habits, both good and bad.

like right now, because of my playstyle i realized i cant for the love of me drum roll 4+5 and 6+7 and i hate it since my completion gauge dips down ALL the way on scripted connection A mix on a part that has the 4+5 drum rolls. :/

It may look funny, but I still play like that a lot. My thumbs are extremely flexible and I use them on those keys and sometimes others since I do play a lot of random. I'm not much of a pinky user either. My friends say it does look a little strange but that hasn't stopped me from beating all the 12s save OML and Mei. The only thing that is driving me nuts right now is that I am breaking into AAAing some of the 11s, (I have like 5 or 6 under my belt right now.) So, I have AAA'd a couple that some people would consider pretty tough and yet an easy one like Lovely Storm is kicking my ass and I can't get that one. Bottom line though, I still play whatever feels comfortable to me. If I feel a change in fingering will do me good on a specific song I will do it (In order to beat Scorpion Fire [a] I copied CHKN's all-finger no thumb playstyle.)

It's OK, I wasn't slagging off that play style or anything

I use my thumbs shit loads in IIDX. Yeah and same, I don't use my pinky at all, unes it's for the TT.

As people have said, there is no "right" or "wrong" way and oftentimes you'll find yourself switching playstyles depending on the needs of the chart or the song. Experiment with different styles and figure out what works best for each song
