Default Custom IIDX DD?

I was wondering if it's possible to edit IIDX DistorteD like Guitar Hero so one can use custom/original simfiles?

*btw i wasn't sure if this goes in the simulation thread of the IIDX thread.*

I dont think you are aloud to talk about hacks (or at least for in the groove you aren't).

The bigger question here is why would you want to? DD has a great song list, and I don't know why you'd want to change it.

For one, there's a lot of good songs on older styles (see 5th) that haven't been revived on to a more modern style yet.

QQQ should have been on DistorteD if we're talkin' 5th style.

so, it's possible to move songs from older styles to newer ones, but not to put bms files into cs iidx (unless you can convert wavs to the ps2 sound format). he didn't specify how to do the former, either; he just said it was possible, with a lot of coding.

DD is the only ps2 CS i have, besides the original Bemani

Just think of the possibilities:
1.) if you and your friends make music you can put a style together with your own songs and videos (if you could code it)

2.) there's a lot of good artists out there who are undiscovered, and perhaps putting them in IIDX could give them exposure (if one can secure the rights to do so) (if the people in your area are able to run it on their ps2 or if someone creates a data splicer to run "homebrewed" games without use of a mod-chip like Datel did)

3.) if you hate the interface or scoring of another style (*is pointing at the US release of Bemani/IIDX*) you can just move the songs over, remove some, add some different ones

I don't intend on doing any of these...was just interested in if it were possible because i see a lot of custom songs for GH on youtube, and because I like IIDX better than GH I thought it would be awesome.

I wasn't aware of it, but I only asked if it were possible, not how do do it. And if even that is a problem for a mod then I'd be happy to oblige and cease further posts of this nature .

Woot! Perfect answer!

Hahahaha.

You're forgetting a few things. IIDX songs are keysounded. It takes a long time and a lot of effort to make keysounded IIDX charts. it would be infinitely simpler for an 'undiscovered artist' to send a demo CD to a record company than to put their songs in a crazy japanese notesmash game.

And the problem with custom GH stuff is: it's generally made by people with little to no musical knowledge or rhythm. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but every single custom GH chart I've played is either out of time, set to 100bpm for longer star power at the sacrifice of note accuracy, or is a stepmania chart for guitar hero, or a mixture of the three. Given the miniscule timing window in IIDX, this would not cut it.

So how are we suppose to do this?

Id love to put the likes of Kakumei, G2, Jive, etc on DistorteD.

I don't know really. But I"m sure no one will tell you directly here or if they do, they might not give you the software to do it.

Also about custome songs and adding songs in IIDX:

1) You'd only be able to add so many, look at the size of the game alreaady.

2.) Even if you do convert the .wav files to PS2 audio, who says that it uses a .bms/e file at all? It might use something totally different.

Ok, with GH stuff, I agree kind of. People just take an MP3 file (or whatever format you need) and slap it to a MIDI notechart... yes, MIDI. IIDX does NOT run on anything MIDI (I don't think). To make a keysounded chart, it would actually take time, effort, patience, knowledge of rhythem, and some skill. You don't just slap notes to a song. So if you and your friends made music, you'd have to first make the song the normal way, THEN extract all the keysounds. And you know how many keysounds a song has in general. Wow, I feel kinda bad for the people who have to sit there and make about 240 different charts... well maybe about 180, but still, man. I don't know if I'd like that job very much... or maybe if I was getting paid a pretty good wage I would, I don't know...

But yeah. Oh, and also, I don't know for sure, but I don't think anyone hacked IIDX for the same reason they can't really hack DDR. It probably has something to do with really compmlicated coding or something...?

Bemani2BMS can pull songs off IIDX and convert them to .bms files, so if you had sort of an inverse (BMS2Bemani) then I suppose you could do it the other way around.

As for trying to hack and customize IIDX CS, I say that you should just wait for KONAMI to give us the next game with the next songs, features, etc. instead of acting against them by hacking through their hard work just for your own personal indulgences. If you chase after the UPS or FedEx guy long enough, these proper morals kinda grow onto you after a while.

It's enough that the simulators exist; just play those if you wanna play custom revivals/customizations.

Guitar Hero's edit/copyright infringement ability should stay on Guitar Hero until things get out of hand. KONAMI is pretty solid company; they didn't come up with such an idea because they are aware of risks/consequences.

I'm going to wait for KONAMI's future releases.

Or maybe, just maybe (!) we could play on a simulator or buy the older version of the game to play the song. It's not like complaining about "omg I want this song on DD CS soooo badly ;_____;" is going to make Konami reprint a new version of DD with those one or two songs on it.
