For me, DDR was the first Bemani game I ever played and of course it introduced me to Konami's long line of wonderful music games.
This is how it went for me:
DDR 3rd Mix - 7th Mix > Beatmania > Para Para Paradise > DDR EXTREME JP to US EX2> Beatmania IIDX 11:RED
I played DDR, and it got me to play the original Beatmania for PSX, however it didn't turn out so well, because the game was very difficult for me. Then I tried PPP, tried to get into it, but eventually went back to DDR. Now, it's like 40% DDR and 60% Beatmania IIDX, for it has rekindled my love for Bemani games.

Favorite IIDX Game so far: RED or DISTORTED
I suck, I can only play 6-7 Stars on Normal, but with the addition of GOLD, I can beat some 8's!
I don't play MapleStory anymore, gave my roots26 account away...
I have all 6 Roots26 Shirts.

Bout to mix it up w/ some Pop'N though | Shoot, I played Pop'N at Arcade Infinity, and I thought it was gonna be uber difficult like Beatmania IIDX, but surprisingly the songs were fun and it felt like getting an A on a Beatmania song for the very first time.

DDR for a few years, then I started taking up 5-key beatmania (starting on a BMIII machine). A few months later, I got beatmania PSX/3rd Mix (bundle). After feeling confident that I was decent at 5-key, I took up the challenge of IIDX. Since I started with the first CS game in the series with beatmania PSX, I figured I might as well do the same with IIDX, so I got 3rd Style.
A few years later, and here I am today.

DDR got me interested in Beatmania, though I've only played BM Complete Mix 2 and BM III Apend 6th Mix and nothing from IIDX.

Lol, how could I forget Pump before?!
And I'm pretty sure that almost everyone here started out on DDR or maybe some old version of Beatmania 5-key. My Cousin saw a BM machine awhile before seeing a pump machine, before seeing DDR.
And now that I think about it, I'm surprised nobody has posted saying that they started with Geetar Heerow. (Maybe because we're in the Beatmania board, and why would they want to play a crappy GH ripoff?  ) | |
