m33, unfortunately, you're not completely right. Since GOLD, if you are playing with e-amuse, based on your saved data you may be able to play more songs in the first two stages.
This is what Bemaniwiki says:
If you have cleared 5-dan or lower: 1st stage 8*, 2nd stage 10*
If you have cleared 6-dan: 1st stage 9*, 2nd stage 10*
If you have cleared 7-dan or higher: 1st stage 10*, 2nd stage 11*
If you have cleared 8-dan or higher plus have played 100 times(?): 1st stage 11*, 2nd stage 11*
If you have cleared 10-dan or higher plus have played 1000 times(?): 1st stage 12*, 2nd stage 12*
