My TOE JAM, well... jammed.
All I can say, cleancelancleancleancleancelancleancleancleancleaa aanclean it.
my IIDX RED works alright now, but when you use swapdisk, this happens to all music games at one time or another.

My adivce: either cleancelancleancleanclean or get a new Japanese PS2.

Oh, and PS: your HAPPY SKY is the real problem. Circular scratches? Wow, disk bein pwnt.

To John.XXIV: the above solution is perhaps the best solution to your situation. Either that or your ISO idea. My own solution of leaving the fliptop open will most likely not do anything if your game has a circular scratch.

A while ago I attempted to do something with the fliptop open and the disc flew out (this wasn't on a Slim PS2) D: - even with the magnet disc thing attached

Just a heads up.

Yeah I know. The JP PS2 would be my last resort, though. I know that would be the obvious (costly) solution, but I wanted to know if there were alternatives. The fliptop opening thing works most of the time (I still don't know how it works... but it does). The only song that doesn't work is Rakuen. (But that song isn't particularly my favorite).

I guess I'll make a backup copy... (thankfully my DVD burner can read through those circular scratches... just in case it works better)

Well, thanks for helping me out, especially Nilmind.

And bump.

I just found a more superior and permanent solution than the one I described before. However, I believe this only applies to those of us who installed a fliptop cover on the old thick PS2. I already mentioned my theory of poor fliptop design, and in my situation, I found that to be the sole problem. All this comes down to is the spring that's attached to the fliptop hinge. In my case, this spring sticks out in a way that may interfere with the spinning of the DVD (it probably interferes more when the machine has to slow down reading the outer parts of the DVD). Obviously, this occurs underneath the fliptop, so it would be necessary to open the PS2 again. Once you do, simply cut off the troublesome part of the spring. I used a strong wire cutter (please wear goggles; the cut piece literally popped to the ceiling when I did this. EDIT: also cover the PS2 with something just in case as well). Sorry I don't have a digital camera.

All the songs work perfectly for me now.

Well I HAD Happy Sky until it got suvirely scratched. Like... it won't play at all. I'm not tossing out another $60 for a new one so I'm just going to have to download it. I tried putting it in my computer. Funny thing though. My computer can see all the files, but when I tried to run it through a PS2 emulator, it had a ton errors. Do you think I can still rip an image of it from that disc and have it work on another DVD?

Before it got scratched (Which btw I have no idea how that happened), it along with some other IIDX's worked perfectly fine.

i suppose you guys are talking about a burnt copy of happy sky.

...and even though you have the real thing you should probably make a copy anyway since you have fliptop and you dont want your real copy to get scratched...

i recently found out that the quality of the burning process is very important. when i burned RED and HS myself, even though my burner is pretty good, the CS original songs and old songs wouldn't work. for HS, some of the songs like sexysexychevy wouldn't work either. but recently my friend gave me his copy of RED, and all the songs work fine.

a part of the reason that the songs didnt work was that i have a slim premod ps2 and it gets heated up quickly... but a good burn can overcome even that. =P

When you say a good burn copy of the origonal one, do you mean burnt on good media or faster speed? I'm guessing good media.

TY DVDs and Verbatum DVDs work the best. But I use Sony DVDs and they seem to work fine with my BMUSA backup.

I can second this. I was tearing out my hair when I installed my fliptop last summer, since it wouldn't read anything, not even US titles. After 2 days of testing, I finally came to the same conclusion and cut the plastic out with a hot knife.

I've never once had a problem with either of my two PS2s (one old-style w/ fliptop, one tissue-modded slimline) reading any legit import games with Swap Magic 2. :/

This happened to me, and I stopped playing IIDX for just about over a month.

Then when I decided to try it again...everything worked fine...It is very mysterious.
