I had a similar episode with my Dreamcast. For some reason it stopped working. Then about a year or so later, I started playing it again and now it works just fine.

I got the same problem in V, Airflow. I heard the disc isnt spinning well when it tries to load those songs.
It was so mad that time because V is the second song in 7th dan, and I couldnt go over 7th dan because of V.

I tried to burn it with another dvd-r that I bought the next day, and now it works But I still heard some weird spinning sound at the beginning when it load the songs..

RED should work fine with what you have. I'm pretty sure this issue is only with HS right now.

Also nilmind, do you think your fix with the metal piece in the fat PS2 would apply to the similar inserted object used in the slim ps2? I had to install a small L shaped metal piece near the hinge, because of the PS2's version requiring it.

Well, i'm using a PAL PSTwo with Swap Magic 3.

I tested IIDX Happy Sky and 6th Style and i don't see problems yet. That's a strange problem and i'm asking if it just happens with NTSC systems.

I'm actually not at all familiar with the fliptop used in the slim PS2, but from the diagrams I've seen, it seems like my solution should apply there just as well. I say that you may as well try it since the worst that can happen would be the top not being able to prop open by itself anymore (you can still lift it yourself).

Also, I must add that the problematic role of the spring was not obvious at first. The DVD could spin just fine with or without the top open while the metal piece didn't touch nor interfere with it. I suppose that when the spinning has to slow down and read the outer rims of the DVD, it may tend to naturally wobble just a bit. But it's probably this wobbling that makes it come in contact with the spring, thus making it spin a bit awkward. Thus, it may be a good idea to cut the spring even if it doesn't touch the DVD. I'm also guessing that the opening the lid trick works just because it moves the spring with it out of the way.

*sigh* *cries* My poor HS IIDX. It won't load at all now. And ripping and image doesn't seem to be going well. (I started it before I left for school. It was at 1%. I came home and now it's about 3 or 4%.)

It's just so dumb because when I first got it, I made a backup on the other hard drive. So when it screwed up, I thought, "Oh, no big deal. I'll just make a backup." Well, I tried to burn the back and the DVD drive had an error. So then I tried copying the image to my main hard drive when the one with the backup on it completly crashed... and then reformatted. So no back up, slow image re-rip. *sigh* WHY WHY WHY!!!! It's like fate and God doesn't want me to play HS.

I hope don't get penalized for saying this, but Happy Sky is the only IIDX I legally own aside from BMUS and it's (HS) the only one I'm having the most problems and issues with. Ha, go figure.

I noticed 3 songs on my copy of Happy Sky dont work either, either they freeze before the notes load, or the music cuts out mimd-song:

J-EUROBEAT 月光 Tatsh feat. 星野奏子
INSTRUMENTAL airflow Mr.T
LOUNGE HOUSE SWEET LAB DJ SIMON

I don't know why either.

Oh and I;m using CogSwapLoader also to load it (Independence PS2 Exploit).

You guys should try to burn with any dvd-r, i use memorex dvd-r. The problem is being solved.
Enaress, it sucks that it cant load 月光, its like one of the song that makes you want to play HS.

Maybe you guys can try opening the flip top like a guy did in previous post..

I think I can get my HS working again. Funny, all the songs worked as far as I know.

Oh yeah, I tryed that when the song wasn't loading fully. I'd open it slightly until the disc stopped spinning than I closed it, and usually the song loaded, but later, the disc would again make searching noises and the sound would cut out as the notes are still scrolling.
I tryed multiple burns as well. Same issue almost with beatmania 6th Mix with Disabled the FLAW Long Version, but thats on a burned copy. I'm getting a retail version to try and see if that will work.

Yeah, sometimes that happened to me too. But I already did give two solutions after this one. I first said that leaving the top open permanently makes it work even better (song no longer cuts out in the middle), but there's the obvious "naked disk" penalty. Also, I didn't find this solution to be foolproof since there was a point in time when this didn't work well either. For me, this was the time when neither the "opening/closing lid" nor "leave lid open" trick worked for me at all. That was when I finally reminded myself of that spring that stuck out underneath the fliptop hinge.

In a nutshell, all I did was trim that metal part of the spring with a strong wire cutter. Every song worked perfectly for me after that. For more info, just check post #22 in this thread. I suppose that other things like pieces of plastic may hinder the spinning of the disk as well, which can be solved with what EvangelionUnit03 did in post #27.

EDIT: And Dreamcube, I'm also really curious as to what you did differently to make yours work. One moment, you seemed like you were out of hope, the next, some miracle happened (?).

Well as I said, the origanal image was shot. So, I ran all over the nets looking for an ISO... well, none of the torrents to them were alive. Then I finally found one. So my new backup of HS should be fine. Let's hope this image works. If not... I'll think of something.

Hey guys!

I had the same problem, but I managed to fix it, so here's the solution...it's gonna sound weird, but it actually works.

By the way, this fix is only for people with the FlipTop...which i'm sure most, if not all of us have.

Anyways, here's my solution.

All you have to do is unscrew all the screws at the bottom of the PS2 so the FlipTop can be moved around on top.
What I usually do is when I play Happy Sky, I just tilt the FlipTop top case just a little bit, about maybe about 1/4 an inch upwards, if not less and then try it. If the song still messes up, don't turn off your PS2, just keep lifting the fliptop until it finally does play; it's what I did to get V to finally work and now I have zero problems with Happy Sky.

I reported this problem the day I got my Happy Sky, which was about two days after it released in the HS Discussion thread, so i'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem.
This should solve your problem because when I put the screws back on the flip top, it messes up again, so i'm guessing it's the CD.

Give it a try and see if it works
