Default is Hard clearing the same as...?

just a quick question(s);

is it considered the same as HARD clearing a song, if u play without HARD mode on, but you life bar never goes below 80% (ofcourse i mean after u reach above 80% from the start of a song)?

coz ive always imagined HARD mode as the top 20% of the normal life bar, ie the red part.

ok, so how many bads and poors does it take to fail a song on hard? and how many bads and poors does it take to make a normal lifebar from 100% to under 80%?

you will dip below 80% on a normal lifebar at difficulty 3 before failing a song on hard. however hard clearing is just more of a qualification. hypothetically, if you can clear a song without ever dropping to 80%, you can hard clear it, but you haven't truly hard cleared it until you've beat it with the mod. kind of silly in my opinion. i've hard cleared a couple of 12s that i can't beat normally.

Depending on the style you're playing, hard gives you 9-12 misses in a row before you die. You fall out of 80% margin in normal mode after about 6, so it's useful if the ending is difficult.

FYI, I have only a few songs left to Hard Clear that I've cleared normally, notably GAMBOL [a], rage against usual [a], Scripted Connection A mix [a], and BLUE MIRAGE [a]. It helps you learn to hit more notes as well, so it's kind of like training yourself to full combo songs.

Hard mode can also work against you though, such as in PLEASE DON'T GO [a], where you have to make it past the first wall of jackhammers, the middle part with the offbeat/syncopated rhythm, and the last wall of jackhammers. You're much more likely to die than to make it through, unless you're on the road to AAAing the song D: Innocent Walls 7k and [a], One More Lovely [a], and FAKE TIME [a] work similarly, where they have extremely difficult parts before the ending to further drain your lifebar.

Also worth noting that getting a full combo without Hard counts as a hard clear (forgot which style that started on), because you couldn't have failed the song on Hard anyway.

That's only on RED CS, every other style doesn't do it that way, and makes it a separate thing.

It's on RED and HS.

You can fail with a full combo and hard, you just get a lot of excess poors. I've done it on IXION 7k/[a] many times on purpose, and failed after the last note with a AAA.Relatively speaking though, no normal player will fail a song with a full combo, and it's been said you can even enter your full combos as hard clears for older styles on VJArmy.

I always mark my FC's as hard clears on VJArmy.

Don't want to sound silly but most times I just consider anytime I have miss count < 10 that I mark it as a hard clear as long as it's done via manual entry. Most times I just did it on 4's and 5's when I forget to turn it on after I try an 11. Then when I get back to an old style after a break I just beat all the old scores with the hard clear and fix it after a long time.

I've only played hard clear on easier songs. It is kinda fun though.

Doesn't sound silly, I see no problem with it. SDmissing a song is grounds for Hard Clear, in any case. You won't get challenged or get in trouble for it, and I completely understand your sentiment. Sometimes it can be a pain to go through ALL the light7 songs you've played several times before and AAAd just to hard clear them all.

It's up to you if you want to use it or not.

However, using HARD mode still gives you the upper edge in the sense that it can be a challenge but once you get used to it, it becomes as ordinary as playing the game itself.

Also, you will know later on (with BM IIDX machines connected to e-amusement) as to why more than 90% of all online players use the HARD mode all the time (or as much as possible)

On some songs, your lifebar can dip below 80%, making it a pain in the you know what to Hard clear certain songs. But if you keep your lifebar up and above 80%, I figure that should count as a Hard clear.
