A couple friends of mine are very happy with their FP7-S's. I personally would never settle for less than an arcade size controller (Evo) mainly because I hate small turntables.

Edit* I forgot to ask, if I got omron switches but dj dao buttons, would that make it a ton different than having sanwa buttons? I'm just trying to get the best perspective because i've played on new sanwa's and they were awesome, but, are the Dj Dao buttons that much different?

Originally Posted by jackiecorn I found a post in a chinese forum explaining what difference between the sanwas

A key is consist of a button and a microswitch. The clickiness and the speed of the
key bouncing back up after being pressed is all depending on the quality of the
button(The higher the speed and the lower the friction, the more comfontable it is
to press, which most players want for gameplay). The microswitch controls the
signals of turning on and off the switch, and also the strength required to press
the key. When we say that a key is hard or soft,we are mainly talking about how
the microswith is working. We will talk about the differences between the
microswithes of the DJDao keys and the Sanwas below.
(Before continuing,I have to tell you that the "buttons" of the two keys have no
practical differences,so just pay attention to the microswitches.)
The DJDao keys use microswitches made by Honeywell, and the Sanwas use ones
made by Omron, they are both classified as same class products, there are no much
difference between the two in quality.Honeywell microswitches have the strength
of 25grams and the Omron ones have the strenth of 100grams,the main difference
between them is the 75grams difference.
But why wont DJDao use the 100grams ones instead of 25grams?
Because in the physics of a human finger,75grams is considered to be the most
comfortable and "standard" weight(strength). When the button and the microswith
combines, the strength of the key is around 75grams which is perfect. If the keys
are lower than 75grams,you can hardly feel that you're pressing them, but when
the keys are higher than 75grams,they become a bit "hard".
A lot of players from Hong Kong said that when a new IIDX machine comes into
the arcade, the keys feel a bit "hard",the feeling is not too good to play with. But
after a year or so,they become better to play with ,because they had been
frequently used by a lot of people for a long time.
So another question came, why do keys get "softer" after frequent uses?
Microswitches with greater strength, like the Omrons, will usually lose its strength
after a year or so with frequent uses, the strength can drop down to around 50g-
40g,combining with the strength of the button attached, the total strength is about
80-90g instead of 150 or something. Therefore the keys should feel a lot softer
and more comfortable to play with.
DJDao has the perfect strength for comfortable gameplay, probably to the fact that
the controller is for home gaming and not for 90000 people to play with, the DJDao
keys dont seem to have any obvious changes in strength even after 2-3years of
frequent gameplay.
So,what we called the Sanwas are really just standard buttons with Omron's
microswitches and are sold for high prices.
Swapping Sanwas with the DJDao keys causes no damage to the controller since
Omron's ms's and the ones used in DJDao keys are basicly the same,in both
quality and durability. So,no worries for modding in Sanwas Lam.
Sanwa keys are all attached with microswitches,Dao had asked if he could just
buy the buttons alone, but Sanwa was not willing to do so,so Dao used their own
keys for making controllers.
My words...come to think about it,Dao's keys are probably better than the hard
sanwas,Dao also said that he thinks his keys are even better than the sanwas, its
just a trend that people like to use sanwas and consider to have arcade feelings.
I think the arcade feeling is important but I rather have a more comfortable play
than the "too-hard" keys of the new IIDX machines in the arcade, also to most
of you Americans,I think most of the time you play IIDX on PS2 or on sims, you
might not even get a chance to play it in the arcade in your life,so why bother
uncomfortable gameplay?
More comfortable gameplay or closer feelings to the arcade's? You choose yourself. |

I am leaning towards the PEE's due to the fact they're pretty much arcade perfect. And I guess I'll go with Dao keys because I felt brand new sanwas and after about a half an hour of play my fingers were hurting. A lot of information to take in about these controllers...

Total Tokens: 422.47 Donate Tokens | I'm not amazing, I'm at the 8/9 wall right now, working on getting up to 10's. However, when I play in the arcade, I suck majorly because of the scratch and different buttons, and I want as close to the arcade feel as I can get. I want to learn doubles as well, and I figure what better way then on the real deal, plus its annoying to get my hands on controllers because I always get outbid at the last minute. Plus I don't want another copy of BMUS, I have one already... Also, I just got a new position at a company at the prudential, so if I'm gonna spend money, I want it to be top quality. Also, getting back to why I'm not getting the real, it really is huge, and its really expensive to ship/ much more likely to get damaged. Plus, if I ever decided to go back on my purchase, it would be a lot easier to sell a P.E.E than it would be to sell a real. A lot of people just wouldn't want it, and I know this :-p.

Judging by your sig, you seem to love arcade realism and I'm sure it would look damn sexy to have an RE hooked up to one of your machines.
In other news, I splurged and bought a PEE as a late birthday/christmas gift for myself. I'll be sure to take pics/vids (but don't expect anything impressive, I've been away from IIDX for 1 year+) when I get mine.
