how long does it take to adjust to the timing? is hitting the turntable much different than on a KOC? it's raised up, and looks like it's farther away from the keys. i'm also not used to playing standing up...
how do you set the options for a song? what about effectors?

Expect your timing to suck at first, to fail things that you can pass at home, and to get one or two letter grades lower than you usually do on everything. You'll get used to it eventually but the timing is still more or less harder overall in the arcade than at home for a variety of reasons.

For options, there's is a start button on the front of the machine, and since it stands by itself, it shouldn't be too hard to spot. You might have to hold the button instead of just pressing it, it works that way for 8th Style. The effectors, there are sliders beside the start button, but since I don't use effectors on arcade machines, I don't know too much about it.
To change the difficulty to a harder one (7KEYS/Hyper or ANOTHER(7)/Another), hold the VEFX button next to the Start button. The change it to an easier one (LIGHT7/Normal), hold down the EFFECT button, which is below the VEFX one. I think older styles make you hold the button down as you choose it to select a different difficulty, but I'm not too sure about the newer ones.
The timing is really dependent on what style you play at home, but it shouldn't take too long to adjust to the timing, but since the post above me states it differently, it may just be a personal preference.

operating the turntable is another exercise that will definitely take a fair amount of time, but also depends on your playstyle. if you're already used to freeing up your turntable hand as opposed to pinky scratching, you should do just fine. the quality and upkeep of the machine itself will also come into play; a brand new machine's turntable is silky smooth and requires no physical effort whatsoever to maneuver. a well-worn machine will more often than not feature a pretty tough slab of some weird polyurethane/rubber mix that eventually starts to hurt.
the keys feel great though, you'll almost definitely love them and have no problem adapting.

Then the ASCs came out... =]

If you plan on getting better in arcade then it requires alot of money ><
