Default How could we get IIDX popular in the U.S.?

Obviously 90% of the US (maybe even a higher percentage) has never heard of, let alone played, Beatmania IIDX. The users that frequent (and not so much either) this forum, The users that frequent bemanistyle, and some others pretty much make up the community of the Beatmania IIDX players, and some arent even from the U.S.. It would be really cool if i could talk to friends about Beatmania IIDX as much as i could talk to them about CoD4. So, Any ideas?

You forgot to change the post when you crossposted it here, since the context shows that "this forum" and bemanistyle aren't the same thing.

I guess if they would advertise it it could get noticed.

I'd rather have it stay in Japan though, and not have to play licenses I don't care about, like in DDR.

I think that was supposed to be hasn't.

The only way IIDX will gain nearly mainstream attention (not popularity) is if Konami releases another version of it in the US that's like the original bmUS with more good songs (maybe more songs that are in DDR, as that definitely has notable popularity in America now), no 5-key exclusives, and a steady difficulty curve (which means more than 3 6s, especially when that difficulty level may very well be the first serious wall many people face).

Hmm, even with a steady learning curve 2dx still takes time to learn and patience. I also don't think Konami will take out the "great, good, poor" to make it like GH timing (yes the wide range timing) which would probably make it a steady learning curve. With Empress being the last release for the PS2 so I doubt Konami will make another version for the US in english on PS2. I can't say about the next release will be on the PS3. When I started playing 2dx it took me a long time to reach around level 6.

we cant

the time for something like that to happen is long gone and even if we bought every iidx controller and copy of empress and whatever the hell else is in print and gave it out freely to other people for promotional purposes there is no way for iidx to become popular

the music game bandwagon in the united states has hit its apex and is declining and iidx has a bunch of music which nobody hears on the radio which therefore means they dont like it

there are many other reasons which have all been addressed in earlier threads here

it just isnt going to happen

ever

There are tons of musical movements in the US that don't coincide with typical pop/rap/rock that gets played on the radio. The clencher is that a lot of the music fits into genres that just aren't popular in GENERAL over here. Electronic music hasn't been embraced in the United States in the same way that it has in Asia and parts of Europe.

The fact that the IIDX import rate is still pretty high shows that there are those of us that HAVE embraced it, but it's just how our society's musical tastes developed. A lot of people that that took interest in IIDX are already interested in some aspect of Asian culture, so it's a lot more natural of a transition than people who just don't pay attention to things that happen outside of the US.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't blame the radio stations, blame the culture itself :B

Why do people want to get 2dx popular in America. It doesn't need to be, pretty much everyone in America that really wants to play already does.

America already has successful music games. I doubt most of the serious 2dx players in the US really want the series to be popular in America.

Yeah we really don't need to ODI-ify IIDX. Plus the average American gamer would probably lose interest with the learning curve. Just a feeling I have.

We should just really leave it as it is. 2dx will never get popular in the US. Guitar Hero/Rock Band will just dominate the music industry in the US.

IIDX is the wrong kind of game to be popular in the US. If it were meant to be mainstream it would be. Enough people know about it, and try to spread the word, but it just hasn't caught on and it won't the way that it is now. And why would they change it? It does just fine in japan.
