"wow thats some crazy Japanese shit. lets go play freebird"
IIDX is the kind of game Americans occasionally stumble across on youtube, shit themselves with A) confusion and B) humility - and then they forget about it all together.
Most people I know (as I'm an American) can't even actively tell the difference between bemani titles -yet alone even know what bemani is.
"whoa! thats like DDR with your fingers! crazy! LOL?"
-IIDX is the grand-daddy of music games (in terms of age and evolution). If it was meant to be popular here - it would, just like DDR. I say fuck spending money trying to get it popular in the US, and spend that cash on bettering the existing franchise.

the music game bandwagon in the united states has hit its apex and is declining and iidx has a bunch of music which nobody hears on the radio which therefore means they dont like it

ever | This, so much this.
Further reinforcing these points, even some arcade owners acknowledge that IIDX wouldn't be profitable enough (because it's not popular enough) to warrant putting it in their arcades. It's probably why IIDX14 AC failed to make it into the market and more importantly why we never saw a BMUS2.
Granted arcades like Arcade Infinity and SVGL probably turn a profit with their machines because of the good number of Bemani players in the areas there. However, even here in Texas where we have a pretty large number of DDR cabs and even a BM or BMIII cab here and there, there's several DDR players who either don't like IIDX or don't care enough about IIDX to mod their systems to import it. The demand just isn't there. Quote:

Americans haven't heard about IIDX because it's a Japanese thing. Simple as that. I'd hazard to guess that most people who bought a copy of bmUS do so for the controller, or wanted to migrate over from another niche music game. Yeah, niche... it's kinda like how those ganguro think valley girls are the best thing, like, evar... yet they'd probably scare away most Americans. Just one example I guess
Music/rhythm games attract a certain crowd, and out of that crowd only a small portion would ever be interested in IIDX. Of those who actually try the game, few will persevere and overcome the initial learning curve so they can at least touch most of the songs.
Don't push it, though. Bring it up in conversation, but if they don't feel it, don't ram it down their throats. Only pricks would monologue to an unwilling crowd. It'd definitely be nice to have someone to talk music games with... craigslist? Forums? We have regional boards, so why don't you start off over there

Marketplace Rating: 1 | For nearly 5 years, I have been trying to expose IIDX to people in my area, and only got a handful of people interested, however, I did manage to bring to attention some Guitar Hero players' interest in the game after GH came out. I'm not giving up, infact, I'll be hosting a beatmania event later this month in the arcade despite the fact that I'll have to pay money for the "Birthday reservation room" (I'll host the game in there)....normally, it's $50, but if there's a time limit, I'll try to bribe for more time with $100.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Yeah DJ hero is actually pretty original in the sea of american music games. I dig it personally.
- but as far as the spew of other music games out.. Well. Sigh. One could only hope that in the mess of all that at least a few people would see the light (IIDX).
And even if that was the case, unless everyone decides to go out and import every IIDX title currently in stock and for sale through importers - I wouldn't expect bemani to drop so much as a dime towards IIDX in america again.
