There should be a line in the EULA stating no unauthorized copying, which extends to backups. I could be wrong though (it's happened once or twice before). It's also worth noting that you don't own any data on the disc, you own a license to play said data from said disc.

Much less of a following in the UK for sure.
I preach it at any conventions I go to, despite people being unable to clear 2* most of the time.

@ Go Beyond - I presume you're talking of UK conventions? If so, IIDX was at the London MCM expo last weekend, managed to get my first taste of an ASC (Dao RES no less).

Now, if Konami would make HipHopmaniaIIDX (lol) that would probably bring it here to Fun Factory. And maybe put some popular american songs on it too if possible like.... Kanye West, G-Unit, Eminem, and others? haha

One time, my brother didn't know what beatmania was. He saw a folder named "beatmania" on my computer and thought it was some kind of gay porn or something lol.

Very few stand alone arcades in America actually make a whole lot of money and pretty much no one is going is willing to spend money equivalent to a car for a machine that plays songs in a different language.
One reason beatmania is really expensive is because the majority of the songs are made by artists and studios owned by konami. It would be a lot cheaper to acquire licensing rights of existing songs which is what guitar hero does.
All in all, arcade games just aren't popular enough in the US to justify marketing in the states. Similarly, 98% of Japan has never heard of world of warcraft.

thats the exact reverse of the truth
there is still licenced music in iidx like through avex label stuff but it isnt a majority of the song roster and thats because licencing stuff is always more costly than developing music within the company Quote: |

| if anything im pretty sure most people in japan know world of warcraft but choose to play monster hunter instead | |

I had brought beatmania GOTTAMIX, beatmania CLUB MIX, beatmania 6th MIX + CORE REMIX, beatmaniaIIDX 4th style, beatmaniaIIDX 13 DistorteD, beatmaniaIIDX 15 DJ TROOPERS, and beatmaniaIIDX 16 EMPRESS + PREMIUM BEST.
Out of alllllllll that time, I've only attracted around 3~4 people who actually came up to me and asked about the game...2 of them showing genuine interest.
See, this arcade is in a mall, however, the manager only allowed me to have the game setup in the little open room in the back of the arcade, so in order to even see the game or hear the game, you had to come into the arcade. Arcade wasn't so busy...if ONLY she had allowed me to set up the game at the arcade entrance......but that would have posed a problem for the store across the hall due to the extremely high volume level I had, hahaha!
I feel just a bit accomplished, but I also feel that so much potential was lost.
