I am at PlayAsia right now with my credit card, Beatmania IIDX 8th or 10th Style?

Pros and Cons of the both? Which style has more "Happy" style music? Which game has the strongest single genre? If you could just quick give me a quick overview of both games, that would be great!

Either way I'll be happy with whatever game I choose because...anything is better than Beatmania US.

both are great styles. 10th benefits from the new UI (the slick-looking feel you are used to with BMUS.) 8th is a bit older, and as such, suffers visually with age. the gameplay is almost entirely the same though, and if you aren't using s-video or component, it's likely you won't notice the difference.

as far as happy music goes, i'll have to say 8th -- lots of eurobeat licenses, as well as a lot of upbeat electronic stuff. 10th is arguably kind of dark, despite having some of the "happiest" songs ever (one more lovely, lucy [which isn't a "happy" song at all, but still] etc.)

as far as difficulty goes, the two are neck-and-neck. 10th probably has much harder 7key charts in the upper range. with light7, you have lots to work with.

If you don't really think too highly of your timing/timing in general, I'd go with 8th. It's overall WAYYY more happy than 10th. Even though 10th has Rainbow Rainbow, One More Lovely, Lesson 5, Donna Tokimo, they're cancelled out by the interface of the game

There is a difference between happy and upbeat. In the latter case, 10th is darker by far. I almost don't like playing on it because it gives me this bad feeling, seriously. I never find myself really even wanting to choose songs either. I'm just like yay whatever skipping that and that and that and that and that...however since I care about timing I'll take 10th over that piece of shit 8th any day. Many people won't care about that, though. I don't think the slight downgrade in graphics etc. will affect a short-time BMUS owner.

It has a few eurobeat songs, but that's it. There's also a matter of how welldone or fun the 7key charts are, assuming that's the most you'll be playing. Someone else would have to explain that.

And I do love 10th's songlist as well, but I find myself playing 8th more, probably because of that "bad" feeling I get while I play 10th, just as Audity does. It kind of turns me away from it, but yeah my 2 cents is 8th style FTW.

I do find that I put in 10th, play One More Lovely a few times, and then put on something else. I only recently played through all the 6's on Hyper in it just because I hadn't yet.

But I really don't like much about 8th at all, either. I'd say 10th.

Don't worry about my timing comment for 8th if it confuses you. Everyone has their own view on timing it seems. It's really up to you. You've read people's comments. Do you really care about songs being happy/upbeat/whatever, or about the other factors mentioned in these people's comments?

8th has a great songlist, but the uglier interface. I also personally HATE THE LANE RECEPTORS.

10th has some good songs, and the interface is nicer, imo. Lane recptors are sexy.

If you don't really care about the interface that much, go with 8th. If interface really matters, go with 10th.

10th. Ebay will give you better prices on 8th however 10th on ebay will be the same if not more than Play-Asia.
