I can pass most 6s and some 7s. I almost passed whichever chart of 321 stars is an 8. It seems like there's a fairly decent-sized barrier between the semi-medium stuff and the barely difficult stuff. Does anyone have any advice for getting beyond the level I'm at?

Don't worry... the 'Speed Changes' thread is possibly more redundant... deserves to be in there too.
I won't leave you without an answer but... it's safe to say this thread might be closed.
The most common and most valid response of all time: Practice. Seriously... when I cleared One More Lovely on Hyper... I thought back to the time where I didn't even see myself passing Space Fight on Normal. It's all a matter of time, really.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | 321 Stars on Hyper was the first 8 i passed...it's similar to the 5-key chart (which i overplayed). i don't think it should be labelled as an 8 though...maybe a 6 or 7.
But yeah...no worries. Practice makes progress, not necessarily perfection.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I've been playing for several years now, along the way experiencing an almost unbelievable gamut of swings, rethinkings, and outright flipflops, more than every other music game I've ever played put together. Along the way, I've improved markedly, not only regarding the bottom line of clearing songs, but in enjoying the game and not getting hit hard by failure. Seriously, there was honest-to-god a time I pegged Silhouette of my Mind as "average difficulty".
So how did I get so much better? How did I go getting whaled on by the likes of Love Will to giving 10s a run for their money?
Well...
See, here's the thing...I don't know. I experimented with speed settings, I learned to relax a bit more, I downloaded a bunch of videos, and little by little, things just started falling into place. Part of it, of course, is that the music is just so incredibly awesome (and is still awesome after 15+ games), which, for me, is the unshakable bottom line. (DDR is as fun as ever, but I can't friggin' stand the music these days, which is why my interest has almost completely died out.)
So if you want my advice, find something that'll keep you coming back, get into a whole bunch of other games so you have something to fall back on, and...basically, don't care too much. Hey, if it works in really bad hentai, it can't be all bad, right? Well, it beats the hell out of caring too much, at any rate.

The most important thing is to keep yourself from getting pushed away from the game of just completely fed up with it...although that never stopped me x3 I guess I just love the game too much to ever consider giving it up. I've gone pretty long periods of time without playing but I always come back, more serious than ever.
The key is to PLAYPLAYPLAY like everyone on this forum will tell you. So as far as that is concerned, keep yourself wanting to play.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Hmm..pretty sure Lexy did end up moving the conversation to the amateurs thread... why are people still posting here? There's nothing wrong with asking for help..but if every person made their own thread for their problems *Napakane* we'd just flood the forum with it when there is already a thread for that sort of thing.
Mods...hear my call!
