Default I'm so screwed!

I just made it to 8 level songs in happy sky and realized that I can scale. Don't really know if its called scaling or not but its when you push all the keys from one end to the other. I can do all kinda crazy combos but a simple 5 key string of notes going from one direction to the other kills me. Can some one upload a video of how to do this, or if you brave enough try and describe it. Don't want to start bad habits.
thanks in advance

Are you talking about the parts like near the end of Gekkou (月光) and at the end of DoLL?

I play one-handed...all I can say is that you should train your fingers to quickly move from a white key to a black one, switching between your thumb and index finger. Start on the very left white key and make your way up, switching to your index finger on the very left black key, and just work your way up. Just do the opposite if you're going backwards, but it's just something you have to be able to maneuver well enough to actually start using it as you play.

It's just my method, I am aware that I'm a horrible teacher...Just see if you can practice on the controller and I'm sure you can get it down. For some songs with the super-fast scales, this may not work, but I have yet to see it fail on a non-8 level song.

I would post a video, but the video camera at my house isn't really working properly. If you play two-handed, I'm sure lots of other people here who can give you advice that's much better than mine XD

Hope you get it down soon!

And if it isn't what you're talking about, but I apologize...are there any particular songs with what you're talking about that you're having trouble with?

Yeap thats what I'm talking about, I do play two handed, I can't imagine playing with one hand . Thanks

EDIT:
Well the reason why I care so much is that I ball my hand up and slide it down the keyboard, looking like a pissed off monkey. Thats why I'm trying to remedy the problem.

I can do fairly quick scales, but some of the hardcore ones knock me out. The best advice I can give (since I'm about at the same level: 8-9 Hyper HS) is to practice when you're not playing.

Like, hold your hands as you do while normally playing, and then isolate the fingers, making each one tap the table (or whatever surface) at a time. Start with your left pinky and go all the way to your right pinky (yes I know normally you wouldn't use all 10 fingers, but you don't want to learn just ONE finger 'order'). Go from left to right and back. Do it over and over, but try and speed up every coupld times.

The aspect you have to get used to more than just going finger-to-finger is doing it FLUIDLY. You wanna aim to have each finger tapping the table for the same timespan and at the same rate. da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da and back ^_^.

After you get used to it, try varying patterns, or doing 2key presses, since those seem to rear their ugly heads more and more >_<.

Started doing this and beat toe Jam. Amazing Idea can't believe I didn't think of something like this. The part that kills me i guess is the timing between each key and just a second of practice helped alot. Fun song once you can do it. Thanks.

Yeah I absoluetely love the rhythym to that track. The amusing backgrounds don't hurt it either =P. I think like just about every aspect of the game, it comes in practice and time. You just HAVE to be able to completely independently move each of your fingers cuz the screwballs they're gonna hit us with later..... >_<

You may not need this for 8s, but in the future, keep in mind that you can always use Random to rearrange the harder scales. It's helped me a lot now that I've started to clear a couple of 10s.

hey starscream im not sure what you meant with the isolate fingers tip. but scales are kicking my ass too does anyone have tips for that? particularly on V 7key where it does 2 staircase patterns in a row.

does anyone have good finger placement to hit that? some sort of diagram maybe for witch finger to use for each of the keys?

Isolation is simply being able to completely control how your fingers move. If you want to move say Lindex, Rmid, Rpinky, Lthumb, Lmid in that order (pretend there's a pattern that requires this) then you want to be able to do it without thinking.

The tip I was offering is to help with rolling scales, just give it a shot. Place your hands above a surface and 'tap' with ONE finger at a time, roll from one pinky to the other and back. The trick is to do it rhythmicly. You don't want to stall or 'stutter' your fingers. As you speed up, you'll gain a lot of isolated strength in your fingers.

It's the exact same reason fighters and martial artists use dumbbells. You can't use a stronger arm to help push a dumbbell that's in your OTHER hand =P. Isolation of muscles is key.

good thinking man you're talking about the part at the end right? the part where it goes in a huge staircase back and forth and ends with a scratch?

Just play Kakumei over and over again until you can AAA it. Hyper or another chart, whichever. But that sir is the best song to practice scales on, if you have 7th style of course.

Hmm...I have the same problem. Can anyone reccommend good practice in 10th style. I'm assuming HS level 8 = 10th level 5. Well so far I can scale slowly and do some more weird patterns but scaling fast and scaling WITH a like a 1+2,3,4,4+5 pattern really screws me over. I hope that if improve in that area I will be able to do a song like No 13.

So far on Light 7 I have been screwed over by Blueberry Stream and Platonic-XXX. It's weird because there are easier rated songs which are harder than higher rated songs, like Narcissus at Oasis.

So far the only 10th style song that springs to mind is No. 13 but for a level 7 song its probably not good practice.

I can't think of any good songs off the top of my head, but you're a bit off with your idea of the difficulty scales - an HS 8 is more like a pre-HS 7/8. The ratings for the easier songs didn't change - what did change for the most part is that all the hard songs used to be rated 8s (or flashing 8s on RED), and now they have more accurate ratings.
