I just started last week in the arcade but I have been playing like a mad man on the PC...with a keyboard...AAA'ed Xepher [Another] on the Keyboard...F'ed Xepher in the arcade. Plus I realized I am better at 5 key then I am at 7 key. But my goal is to AAA Gigadelic.

If there are any one handed beginners, here's a good way to map your fingers (Though obviously not THE best, it'll still get you very far):

1: Thumb
2: Index
3: Thumb/Index (Thumb should be more natural, so you might have to use your index more often to imprint that in your brain)
4: Middle
5: Ring
6: Ring
7: Pinky

Of course, there will be awkward sequences that will come up that will require you to slightly alter this mapping to achieve the best possible score. For the infamous 5+6 chord, I recommend learning to stiffen your ring finger to hit both buttons at the same time in the middle of action.

I'm also pretty much an amateur. I'm really starting to get by 6-7's (Happy Sky diff) and finally passed Shooting Star normal (6* pre-Happy Sky, 7* otherwise), and just passed ULTiM/\TE hyper (7*).

There are still a list of 6's I can't pass, however:

- The Safari (normal)
- Tomorrow Perfume (normal)
- G2 (normal)
- quasar (normal)
- (I'm sure there's more)

And yet I can pass quite a bit of 7's like Drivin' (Hyper), ULTiM/\TE (Hyper), Somebody Like You (Hyper)....

I'm actually trying the above fingering sequence but it's hard to get used to.

Ive been playing for 6 months now, and I am stuck on 6*. I can beat a few 7* but most escape me. Guess that means practice, practice, and practice with random... :P

I've been playing for two weeks on BMUS and have RED currently shipping over. I'm up to hyper now and am slowly chugging through the 6 and 7 star songs. I don't know how that translates to the Japanese versions that have a max of 8 stars, but I don't think I'm doing too badly. I still hate how the ending to The Shining Polaris on hyper totally owns me.

I'm very focused on progressing forward in difficulty so I don't play the easier charts too often (other than Mr. T hyper and Summer Vacation normal since I love those songs).

I also have a finger placement that I believe some may find utterly retarded:
1 - L Ring
2 - L Middle
3 - L Index
4 - R Index Tip
5 - R Index, lower joint
6 - R Middle
7 - R Ring

I just can't get used to using my thumbs, so I'm using the right index finger of power for as far as it will take me.

Well, good luck to all of you people!

darien style 4: you sure ly will spend lots of time on the songs you named, although I have to say I had no problem with quasar. Believe it or not, but quasar is way easier than its predecessor traces. Besides, THE SAFARI is rated 7* and G2 is 8* in Normal, not 6*. (G2 Light14/Normal14 really is a 6* though)

As for me, well I'm stuck between amateurism and semi-pro. After 14 months of regular training I have managed to clear all Normal7 charts on all games up to 10th (even the infamous stoic!) and also scored loads of AAAs but I just cannot seem to pass anything that goes flashy-7* (or 8*) on pre-RED versions of the game, except rare few (B4U and satellite020712 for example...). The biggest achievement I've ever done was clearing SWITCH [a] without Easy-mod on. Quite a fit for a song rated 10* on HAPPY SKY! Yet it's the only 10* I cleared...

Forgot to say: I do play "flashy-7*" songs, but only in Hyper. If I can't pass a song in Hyper there's no reason for me to try the Another, in my opinion (except of course for The Big Voyager )

Gimnbo- I have the same problem with The Shining Polaris when I play it on BMUS. The end pwns me really bad, thanks to the weird key sequences with what I consider "jump" keys (2 key presses at once) in the middle of those chords. I'm going to own it soon, I swear.

Digi379- o_o G2 is an 8*? Damn... What kills me on G2 is the end of the song, too. Grr... Though I do admit, traces is quite hard, too. I haven't played quasar enough to judge, but I'll take your word for it. :P

Oh, and I also hate how there's a huge difficulty gap with songs from Hyper to Another. One example of this is Mr.T (take me higher). 4* on Hyper but 8* on Another? Also, 5.1.1. -_-; Anyone have any tips on passing this on Another?

Been playing since US came out, passed all 6s and lower on US, one Hyper 7* left and about half of the another 7*s left to pass, and getting close to passing The Shining Polaris [a] which will be my first 8* most likely.

Bad experience?

Time-wise, I'm pretty much a n00b, but since I played for several hours most days, I might be slightly more advanced than most people who have played for as long as I have. I'm not even done by 6th month of playing IIDX, and I am already clearing songs that are listed as 10s and 11s in the Happy Sky rating system. My only real problem that I beat myself up about is my Just Great Attack. All the AAAs I have gotten was by putting myself in a position of desiring to throw my turntable into the TV screen aside from Nothing Ain't Stoppin' Us 7K. I know some people who have gotten over 30 AAAs and around that time, they couldn't even clear DXY! 7K. I have considered that the person has a very good JGA, or I just sucked.

I have horrible timing as well. Once the notes really start pouring in I get more goods than a general store. Alternating-key strings, especially. I have been killeds many times by the last roll at the end of Fly Through the Night, because I get some 10 bads in a row.
