Am I the only one here who pinky-scratches with his left ring finger? Should I stop?

i only pinky scratch when absolutely necessary. otherwise i use my other fingers

If it works, it works. I try to use my actual pinky since it's more practical (frees up other fingers) but I have a messed up left hand anyway. I can't use my middle finger independent of the index finger, and my ring finger can't do shit. Pinky scratching is still incredibly difficult for me at times (and on an ASC, it's quite the stretch of my small hand)/ Do whatever is comfortable and functional for you.

Been playing since US came out. Since then, I have also gotten 6th and 10th style. I can now pass all L7's on them except for G2, Traces and Innocent Walls. I have gone well into 7keys on each game. However, I still have one major handicap...SCALES!
Yes, I can pass Under The Sky 7k easily, but I have to bitch and moan in training mode forever until I pass Freezing Atmosphere 7k. The scales at the end are always hit or miss for me. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do scales without getting my fingers jumbled. That said, I'm well into 7* territory, threatning 8*.

Is it bad that I also use the joints of my fingers in addition to my fingertips for the keys?

I consider myself a noob, cause I only add AAA's to my VJ Army account.

But as far as Play Level, I can do most easy 8* (V I will prolly never pass), and G2 L7 is SO not an 8 (play at the right speed). On songs below 7 I can average a AA/AAA if I play it a while. I have on and off days.

I started a week ago, so yep, im a noob. I can pass some hypers and 2 or 3 anothers, i need another iidx game, beatmania us is not enough.

G2 L7 is a 7 by old standards. When Happy Sky came out, anything 6 and below kept its rating, 7s changed to 7 and 8, 8s changed to 9 and flashing 8s got the rest of them. That's probably what they used when rating the Anothers for RED CS. Note that based on this, V is a flashing 8.

I'm sure some would probably consider me an amateur, as of right now I've only been able to clear one 8 (I lost a lot of skill when I took a break between 9th and 10th and cannot clear some of the 8s I was able to clear before).

A suggestion for scales: Random :P.

Yes, very bad as you'll lose accuracy later on. Play the songs that you force you to use your finger joints at a slower speed in Training Mode and work your way up.

I used to do that a lot too, when I first started playing along time ago. Eventually, I switched out of the habit as I have small hands and it gets pretty tough playing harder songs while trying to use my left ring finger. Plus I can stretch farther by using my pinky to pinky scratch.

My only real problem that I beat myself up about is my Just Great Attack. All the AAAs I have gotten was by putting myself in a position of desiring to throw my turntable into the TV screen aside from Nothing Ain't Stoppin' Us 7K. I know some people who have gotten over 30 AAAs and around that time, they couldn't even clear DXY! 7K. I have considered that the person has a very good JGA, or I just sucked.

It's not too difficult to rack up AAA's by playing a lot of L7/normal songs ;-p

Not quite. Here's how I see it:

7 - A portion of the easier 7s from the previous mixes (Love Me Do), plus some of the more ridiculous 6 songs (Rislim, tablets, etc.)

8 - The rest of the 7 songs (thunder is here), plus whatever RED had as 8 (I think).

9 - The ridiculous 7 songs (Zero-One, etc.), plus most of the old flashing 7 songs.

10 - Most of the rest of the Hyper songs (this is where many of the awesome songs reside).

11 - For the stupidly hard Hyper songs (gigadelic), or the misrated ones (TDoL).

12 - DistorteD put three of the Hyper songs in this rating (gigadelic, Innocent Walls, Fake Time).

As for my ranking? Does getting pwned by Apocalypse[H] count?
