Default IIDX arcade machine question

How does the LCD HDTV used on the newer IIDX cabinets not lag?
Is there an external upscaler inside the machine or what?
I really want to know!

From what I understand, the newer cabinets (Gold and beyond) base their timing off of the refresh rate of the screen, while the older cabinets had set timing that couldn't be adjusted.

They have chosen a specific monitor, and the game waits for v-sync with the monitor before starting. There is also a setting in the operator's menu to adjust for the timing differences between their official LCD and their official CRT. If an arcade doesn't use an official monitor, the game is bound to be out of sync.

I don't think the sunnyvale golfland uses official monitors, but it doesnt have lag. I remember back when they had DD it was off a little though.
If the game runs off a computer, then using the vga input would solve the lag problem wouldnt it?

The lag comes from upscaling the video signal. Most LCD TVs are 720 native resolution or the high end ones are 1080. The older beatmania outputs a 480 native resolution signal and for the LCD TV to display a 480 N.R. on a 720 N.R. screen, it needs to upscale the video which can cause a 100 ms to 200 ms lag. Newer beatmania machines either output the video signal at 720, OR the newer LCD tvs can upscale the video much faster.

EVEN with the video upscaling delay problem resolved.......

LCD TVs are bad for beatmania due to the response time. The colors cant change very quickly so if you play beatmania with high speed mods, the notes will look very blurry.

Plasma TVs solve the blur issue but since many images in beatmania are static, the screen will burn in very quickly thus ruining the TV.

CRT is still the best for beatmania.
