Total Tokens: 73.38 Donate Tokens | IIDX compatibility I've been looking into purchasing a Playstation 3, but the biggest factor for me in making the decision is backwards compatibility (namely beatmania games). I know the 60GB models have full (or almost 100%) backwards compatibility with PS2/PS games.
The bulk of my import PS2 games are IIDX and Taiko no Tatsujin games, along with their respective controllers. Obviously I would need a Japanese 60GB model, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this topic.
Just some basic questions: Do the games play fine (no audio/video errors)? Can the special controllers be used/is an adapter needed for this? Also, I assume there will be some lag when playing, but will it be major, or something small that one can easily get used to? Or, should I simply keep my import PS2 and not switch to the PS3?
Thanks in advance for the help. | |

Buy PS3 anyway.
Switch consoles when you want to play either PS3 or IIDX.
Problem solved.

I think you will have the most problem finding a Japanese 60GB PS3, or certainly one a at normal price. NSCX have a sale on their Jap PS3s at the moment too, just $889!
I guess the best solution is to hang on to the PS2, especially if it is a slim one as it hardly takes up any space.

Problem solved. | Agreed. Buy one to have one, but don't play IIDX or any other music simulator for PS2 on it. Japanese, American, Lebanese doesn't matter which one you buy, it will play all. Not to mention.... Blu Ray movies.

If you intend on using it for movies at all, you'll want a PS3 from your region. Only PS3 games are region free. | |

The slim is very small and is nice to just have to play IIDX/Pop'n. US PS2 slims are pretty cheap too if you look around (ebay, craigslist) and are pretty easy to mod. Unless BEMANI makes the jump to PS3, your best bet is to just play BEMANI games on PS2. | |

Total Tokens: 635.02 Donate Tokens | ps2 beatmania iidx on ps3
everything has already been said in there
the ps3 introduces fifty milliseconds of lag input on ps2 games
iidx will be relatively unplayable
heres a video of what bust a groove looks like on a ps3 with the lag YouTube - PS3 frame lag - Bust a Groove
as i already said in that thread
ps2 iidx on ps3 is not and never will be a viable option
ps: Brian-san the other thread was still on the first page when you made this
please read the threads which may already have answers to the questions youre asking
thanks

Even with SCEI announcing their plans for their PS2 software emulation program (since new PS3 units being produced have no built-in PS2 playback), it's still a hard gamble as to whether BM IIDX games would be supported.
Even the upcoming 160GB SKU unit will have no built-in PS2 support.
So yeah, keep your PS2 unit(s) till then (or whenever BM IIDX moves to PS3...........though that'll take a few more years before that happens)

I thought that for SD games are interlaced, the PS3 converts this into a progressive resolution (instead of letting the HDTV do the I-P conversion.......which causes the motion problem).
----------------------
In any other case, it's still too early to tell as to what next gen console it would go.
It's basically either Wii or PS3.
Wii because it's chepest next gen console and currently has the widest user base support. Though, by making the switch, all you current controllers will be rendered useless (unless perhaps you buy a USB converter).
PS3 because of easier transition coding. Though this may take longer as Konami is probably waiting for more people to buy PS3s and such...before they make a move
That's just my opinion though.

AC IIDX runs on computer hardware, right? Developers make PC ports for PS3 (or 360 ports for PS3) quite often, it's how multi-platform games are made.
It may not be anytime soon, but eventually, it will come.

Total Tokens: 835.70 Donate Tokens | Maybe not ingame improve , but with the last beautifull Interface we get with , just imagine this on PS3 , could be awesome.
By the way , i really hope they'll make next IIDX / DDR on next gen ( even on PS3 , and i don't have it ) , 'cause i'm sick and tired of lag on HD.
Or just make a powerfull lag calibration tool , not a " -1 -2 -3 " , something that could be very precise =/
