Default IIDX Videos Causing Stuttering

Hi all,

I wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced a situation in which the notes would stutter on some songs, and I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing if a fix or work-around is available.

I first noticed after I got IIDX 9th Style that on some songs, the notes would stutter as they came down and although it didn't make a huge difference to actual playing, it pissed me off a lot and caused me to lose concentration and scores.
As I had purchased 9th second hand from a seller on the forums here I thought it might have been a slightly bad disc or something.
This was until I picked up Distorted and then Gold (The next Hi-Rez versions of IIDX I currently own) and found that although the problem was significantly less apparent, there were occasional songs where the same problem persisted. I though it was odd as both of these games were bought new in Japan and should not suffer from any scratches on the disc.

I recently tried removing the song videos from the option menu and have found that all the previous problems with this stuttering have stopped completely. I even went through most of the songs on 9th which I found to be the biggest issue in the past and it was fine.

This only occured on IIDX 9th and onwards as I never experienced it before then.
I have a Japanese slim PS2 which was bought 2nd hand in Japan, but it is in great condition and have not noticed any problems with other games. All the games I have are in great condition too, particularly the newer ones, so I though it might be a hardware issue.

Has anyone experienced anything like this in the past and have they found a solution to it? Could a dirty laser be causing this? I have to say that I do not notice much difference having the videos off, but it is a nice addition and I do not want to miss out!

I appreciate any recommendations or help.

Thanks...

Hmm, I never really had that problem. Sometimes the whole game would start stuttering though, even in the menus. The only way I could fix it was to restart the PS2.

Try dusting out your PS2. That's most definitely the cause of the stuttering. Specifically focus on the motherboard and the laser lens.
