Marketplace Rating: 0 | im new here My name is Jared and I am 21. I started with DDR like in 2003 or 4 and have gotten pretty good with it but I wanna try all the other fun games out there. At an anime convention in Minneapolis, I played pop n music and I enjoyed that alot and also I seen someone playing Beatmania and I just gotta have it since I love electronic music.
I was wanting to ask if they're any places in Minneapolis where I can get beatmania, I don't know where to look since I live in South Dakota and the game ain't played around here.
I love Pump it up even though I completely suck at it since I'm new to it. I really enjoy seeing players go nuts over it, much more creativity then DDR.
Can i play some type of Beatmania or pop n music on my computer, over the internet?

Marketplace Rating: 2 | there are not alot of places you can get the japanese games, but there are U.S. releases. Check your local gamestop (or other gaming store) for beatmania, and Pump It Up.
or you can import the games from japan using play asia (alot of us import the game, because there are more games, and they have better song lists and gameplay).
beatmania... Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions! - Play-Asia.com
pop'n Music... Buy Video Games for Consoles and PC - From Japan, Korea and other Regions! - Play-Asia.com
HOWEVER, if you are going to import you will need a japanese PS2, or a modded PS2, which will either fit into the region lock, or break the region lock.
if you are going to mod, I suggest you use a swap magic.
if you are going to buy a japanese PS2, look at a list on play asia, or check out ebay, or the marketplace in this site... Buy Games/PlayStation2™/Systems
there is also a few other music games you may like besides the ones you mentioned as well, like Guitar Freaks, and Drummania.
enjoy

Marketplace Rating: 0 | there was at one point a place where you could play a flash version of beatmania, put i forgot where it was. if you want to try it out before you play it, i recommend getting some easy sim files, and an easy sim like BMDX or rhythm it!
as for the ps2 moding thing, i would recommend getting swap magic. it's not a real "mod", and it doesn't void the warranty, and you can play burnt games to (this comes in handy :]).
anyway, welcome to this wide world of music games, and if you have any more questions, just ask.

Marketplace Rating: 7 | Check out the Beatmania simulator forum, it's on the main forum page. There are several different simulators out there that do the job and if you do a little digging around the forum, you should be able to find a lot of the songfiles you'd need. It's a good place to start if you've never tried the game before. Quote:

generik, do yourself a favor and don't even HINT at piracy here. You'll find yourself banned faster than you think.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | turbodaze - If you're looking for a step up from DDR, the best choice is Guitar Freaks/Drummania (known collectively as Gitadora or simply GFDM). It's by far the closest to DDR in all aspects; scoring, judgment, note/beat patterns, you name it. Furthermore, the scrolling speed is constant for all BPMs, making it easy to work out high speed settings (which will become very vital very quickly regardless of the game). The music skews more mainstream than DDR and vastly more mainstream than IIDX, so you'll have no problem getting used to it. (And it's two games for the price of one; can't beat that.)
For IIDX, or Drummania, for that matter, you'll need either a dedicated controller or a joystick. For the latter, your best bet is an Asciiware or Pelican. Someone more controller-savvy than me can recommend a IIDX turntable.
Best of luck to you. One final thing: If at all possible, start with 3rd!!

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Two non-modding alternatives to playing Japanese PS2 Games:
Remove the disc cover of your ps2 and get a swap disc with disc ejector card
...or buy a real Japanese PS2. :3

i was looking for that link, thank you.
also, sorry for hinting at piracy, i might have been implying that you could burn you could burn your copy's of IIDX so you wouldn't scratch them up for nostalgia value.
and besides, japaneses copyright laws are void in the us, and even if they were, the japaneses fbi (i don't remember what there called. . .) dosent have jurrestiction in the US.
again, i apologize. | |

And both the U.S. and Japan are.
So, you could still be prosecuted in America for pirating something from Japan. This is why Chinese pirates can still get arrested for selling bootleg American DVDs.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Yeah, if you get an import of ANYTHING, make a backup copy.
Although JP IIDX's are better, they cost a LOT more.
But yeah, you'll want to make a backup copy. Trust me. I had Happy Sky and once I accidnetly put it in upside down and that was the end. Lucky I had a backup of it on my hard drive.
I'd say Start ith beatmania USA only because it's easiest to find and plus you get a USA controller which IMO is a bit better anyway. Yeah, the US game isn't as good, but it gives you a feel for what you're up against. Look for it as a bundle.
I thought slide cards messed up the disc tray in the PS2. Do you mean that they have a newer one that doesn't mess it up? If there is, please tell me because I know a lot of people that want to try it, but have big PS2's and DO NOT want to take them apart for a fliptop.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | my slide tool works fine. i got if off allmodchip.com, and i can still eject it normally to play normal ps2 games. i don't know how it could mess it up, unless you didn't take the front off right. maybe you could burn out the motor, but i think that thats unlikely.

I'd just say toss out a qucik $30-90 to teammodders.com and let them do it. Then you can just play with no region locks and backups normally.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Yeah, just go to their site. If you have a small PS2, I think it can be done too. But a small one is much easier (and a bit safer) to mod by yourself, but it's still easier to have them mod it if you don't mind voiding your warrenty... of course, mine's is gone now anyway. :P
