Just got a Sony 40z4100.

I used to play on a regular tube. It's taking a little longer to get used to the position/size of the notes (I used to play with Original. Now that I have an HDTV I guess I need to move to Wide Screen) I'm a level 10/easy 11 player with about an A average on the higher difficulties. (AAA most anything 6 or lower)

The lag is somewhere between -3 and -4 with all processing turned off. I'm using component cables.

Note scroll seems fine, I usually play 2x speed at 200 BPM songs (On Gold I have a green number of 280 or so)

Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there. Not ideal, but not bad either.

considering that 50 ounces of gay will be falling upon those who wish to purchase a plasma Just to let everyone know plasma's will be discontinued soon. What is the next best LCD with almost or NO lag whatsoever?

It may happen soon BUT NOT NOW. In fact, Panasonic is still continuing with their Plasma business and is focused more or prioritizing it over their LCD lineup. What you say only applies to Pioneer which has said that they will stop producing their own TVs (sadly as I enjoy and like their Kuro Plasma TV model lineup).

If anything, Panasonic is still pursuing its NEO-PDP development to be implemented for its Viera line and will introduce features such as 10 lumens per watt (increasing light output while decreasing its energy consumption), reducing panel thickness (down to around 1 inch or even less if possible) and reducing costs (to compete even better with LCDs on mass-market level).

So, until LCD can perfectly match and/or exceed plasma in terms of black levels and motion response times, then plasma is hear to stay a little while longer

But you have to admit, Plasma's are STILL too expensive. The Sharp Aquos is an AMAZING value for the price.

I do agree at some point.

Though as again, many aspects are still debatable. In fact, we always have these kinds of debates over at AVSF (avsforums.com/avs-vb) and its just amazing at how the fanboys from different sides react. But all bias and fanboyism aside, there are indeed pros and cons between plasma and LCD that continue to even out even till this day.

Things such as motion handling (favoring plasma atm), energy consumption (LCD), black levels (plasma), native resolution count (favors LCD), viewing angles (plasma), etc. Though personally, I have no bias towards any tech atm (as they have their own pros and cons and that the competing techs seem to be neck-and-neck).

Interestingly, I will try some of the latest displays out there atm and see to check as to improvements being made by each. For this time around, I'm eyeing to try plasma TV for a change (hopefully Pioneer and their latest Kuro plasma TV.....but if it sucks for BM IIDX, then I'll go for Panasonic Viera).

Probably in the next few months (before September at most).

P.S.
Though I still want to see an OLED display in the near future (that would be sick).

You are right.

Even on the Sony XEL-1, lifetime for blue materials range from 12,000 at most (and half of that is a full white image is displayed for 24 hours/7 days a week). So yeah, more work to be done on that department. Aside from that technical hurdle, the OLED TV sets still have to overcome SAH (Sample-and-Hold effect) which affects motion badly.......though this can be overcome with better circuitry.

Anyways, I do hope progress will be made in the next few years (as OLED has lots of potential). In fact, by default, OLED TV have:

-Better response time (less than .01 milliseconds which is faster than any HDTV set out there today)
-Higher contrast ratios (native contrast ratios can start at around 1,000,000:1)
-Thickness of displays (1 inch and/or less).

So yeah, I do hope OLED TV continues to become more widespread over the coming years (I hope to get one by year 2020 ).
