Marketplace Rating: 1 | Believe it or not! Believe me or not, but I have FINALLY experienced IIDX on a 40+ inch LCD HDTV! One of my friends bought it from Wal-Mart; it was a Samsung. I'll try to get more information on the TV's specs, but it has NO LAG whatsoever! I've even played beatmania 2ndMIX (PS1) and beatmania 6thMIX+CORE REMIX (PS1) on that TV and I still have not received ANY lag! It was like playing on a CRT!
Now, don't get me wrong, there's a quality in a CRT TV that you can't get on the other TVs...mines is no exception. I use a 26" Widescreen Toshiba SD CRT TV with my PS2 running on Official Sony PS3 component cables and I must say that the picture quality that I get is pretty much VGA; the most beautiful, crisp, sharp, vivid, true picture that I could ever see in a TV. Many people just_can't_understand that with the right connections and settings, a high-end CRT (despite mines being SD+high-end) could destroy the HDTV 1080p hype. The catch is that you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it; statistics say one thing, but the eyes experience another. There is a difference folks:
1) A high-end CRT of equal size and proportion running a PS2 on composite cables will look better than an LCD/Plasma running a PS2 on composite cables.
2) A high-end CRT of equal size and proportion running a PS2 on component cables will look MUCH better than an LCD/Plasma running a PS2 on component cables.
3) A high-end CRT of equal size and proportion running a PS3 on component cables at the right settings can rival that of an LCD/Plasma running a PS3 on an HDMI cable in 1080p.

So this is interesting IMHO.
Btw, if I may ask, what is the year and model number of the unit you're on?

Btw, if I may ask, what is the year and model number of the unit you're on? | Yeah, it was hard for me to believe, but that Samsung sure pulled it off! I used the same setup as I use on my SDTV to improve the picture quality, which definitely cleared up some junk on the screen that was present during the composite cable test. Happy Sky was also played on that Samsung, and I didn't even have to go to Timing Adjustments in the options. Another thing is that the motion blurring and note choppiness are not as bad as other LCDs! It must be a 6ms response time HDTV! I don't want it, but I'm just saying that it's something that I'd probably go with if something happened to my current TV.
BTW, here is the link to my TV's specs--> Toshiba | ARCHIVED: 26DF56: 26" Diagonal TheaterWide® SD Digital Monitor FST PURE® TV
Unfortunately, I don't know what year it is.

Unfortunately, I don't know what year it is. | I see. So I guess their image processing has improved then. Well if so, that's good
P.S.
Personally, I'm aiming for either Panasonic G series (TH-P42G10) or Sony Bravia ZX series (KLV-40ZX1). I hope those are at least good enough for BM IIDX hehe...

However, do take note that the forte of Panasonic is still in plasma TV sets so yeah, if you're given the choice, go get their Plasma.
Still you are ultimately the judge and tester so yeah, go test them out first before you make your decision
Hope that helps
P.S.
Panasonic just started releasing their G13 Viera Plasma TVs wahoot. Basically, here are some of the things they added in the new version:
-More than double the contrast ratio
-Infinite Black Pro on more models
-More energy efficient using 5 lumens/per watt technology (as part of Neo PDP)
-3D is now available on VT series (but seriously, you don't need that for BM IIDX at all)
So yeah, that's what the new version has got (over the older G12 units)

Marketplace Rating: 0 | So i was wondering whether i'd be better off buying the previously mentioned Panasonic plasma set or the Panasonic - VIERA 42" TC-L42U12 LCD in either 60 or 120 Hz? It would be primarily used for Xbox 360 gaming, this thread seemed to be the most informative site i could find for someone worried about lag in their TV set. Thank you

Thank you | You mention 60 hz or 120 hz.
That's what is called as frame interpolation which works by adding extra 'frames' to smooth out motion and reduce judder (or so they say). The implementation yields different results in different types of visuals.
For plasma, it's not much of a necessity for plasma TV since the response times of Plasma TV sets tend to be faster..........though it helps of course.
Oh an response times are most credible if these are Black-to-white-to-black. Grey-to-gray response times are not as credible/reliable.
Hope that helps

Marketplace Rating: 0 | So the TV I've been using for IIDX is giving me some big problems, and I'm looking to get something to replace it. I'm not looking for an HDTV and just want a simple tube TV to hook up all my non-HD consoles up to while spending as little as possible. I've been looking at some widescreen (So Original mode will look normal) CRT's on Craigslist, but they all seem to be HDTV's supporting 480p/1080i. Does anyone have any IIDX experience with any of these CRT HDTV's? (Specifically Sony ones) I'm not totally sure what they do to a 480i signal, so I don't know if they would lag or not.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | i have a sony xbr 34 inch crt hdtv
when i played ps3 rock band 2 on it the auto calibration settings shown a lag of about 15 milliseconds from the video display
from what i can gather this is roughly the same lag as youll get from playing the game on a panasonic plasma
it took me a few days of playing iidx on the screen to be used to the lag and after that period of adjustment playing the game on the screen is fine
the lag isnt enough to ruin playing the game

So yeah, that's what the new version has got (over the older G12 units) | Well I just picked up a new plasma tv myself today. (Well ordered it, should be here this week)
It's a 42" Panasonic Viera TH-P42V2. Panason V2 Plasma website
I was trying to decide between this V2 and the 42" G2, but ultimately decided on the better V2 after checking both of them out at some local electronic stores. I ordered online for a cheaper price though. Hopefully, it'll be nice for Bemani, though that's not the main reason I got it for, but I'd still like to try it out with IIDX and Pop'n.(I still have my Sony CRT Wega anyway) Should be nice when it gets here.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | I've owned the 42 & 50" 600hz model. I'd highly recommend it as it is virtually lagless. More scores seemed to have gone down now since i'm using a smaller, lcd type computer monitor with a response time of 3-4ms vs the 0.01ms on the plasma. Returned the tv to buy some tires for my car lol. Didn't lose any money so idc. I'll be picking another one up @ costco anytime soon. Hopefully it gets cheaper in the mean time though.
