Default Learning Curve in IIDX RED CS=complete BS!

Okay, I've been playing this game for a month or so, and have noticed that the learning curve and possibility of doing well in the game is bulllshit!

I'm only an L7 player, however I've made it to passing most level fives and very few level 6s.

I started on 7th, which didn't have 10 fancy high-speed settings, so it made it a LOT harder to get into certain songs than others. Anyway, it takes MONTHS to get good at IIDX. My brother (razer_2mb) has only started clearing flashing 7 anothers a couple of months ago, and he's been playing almost non-stop each day for a couple of hours a day since last Christmas.

The learning curve of the game doesn't really have anything to do with the style you're playing, imo. To me, RED is a pretty balanced CS game, with lots of easy songs and lots of hard songs. IIRC 10th or 9th were the "most difficult" for some people.

All you need to do is play, play, play. Just like in DDR/ITG, a lot of the game is muscle memory. You pretty much train your hands to react a certain way to certain patterns on the screen. That's how I see it, anyway.

I started on 10th Style, and yes, the learning curve was pretty steep, RED's curve is much, much beginner-friendly...

As dog$ put it, its pretty much going to remain like this, but keep practicing. Another thing to keep in mind is not to compare yourself with everyone else and just work at your own pace. I remember watching ryry's videos nonstop to get pumped up to play songs I was no where near passing only to get my fingers destroyed.... Lame, I know. Anyhow, point here is have fun, enjoy yourself and with enough play time, you'll get to a decent play level.

The learning curve is like playing a real musical instrument in my opinion. It just takes time. And if you're expecting mastery, well that can take years. My personal advice is that if you don't feel like you're progressing, play everything at least 1 level harder than you can normally do, and then you'll find the stuff you used to play way easier to pass and you'll start moving along. Playing on random helps too. Get's your fingers used to quirky note patterns before you have to smash it all at once in hard songs.

just wait until you reach Another difficulty on RED. it's got to be the hardest CS game so far in that respect, and I doubt it'll be topped for some time (happy sky comes close though, with V, OML, Mei, Rage Against Usual, Please Don't Go, and moon_child. maybe some new extremely difficult CS songs? we'll find out...)
7key/Hyper isn't fun either. gigadelic, Genocide, AA, Go berzerk, A, Fake Time, Scorpion Fire. have fun.
Light7 is pretty easy to learn, to be honest. just keep at it, and try to clear some of the easier 7k/Another songs, few as they may be.

How is RED's curve beginner friendly? It doesn't even have Beginner mode! Only Light-7.

Beginner mode is a wholly different selectable gameplay mode, like Free or Arcade. (Unless they removed it, which I don't think they did.)

RED definitely does have beginner mode. Dunno how you missed it. It's like, the easiest beginner mode ever too.

If you want to progress, getting another style is always a good option. 7th is good. Get 7th.

Ah - the days of just starting out. I remember when I beat my first level 6 on 7K (.59 on 2nd style - yes, Im old ) Took me another month to beat my first 7 [era (NOSTALMIX) on 3rd].

It does take time to get the mechanics down - the learning curve is nasty. Just be glad you didn't cut your teeth on 9th style - you'd really be crying then.

I just got this style and started playing it. And, I have to agree that this is a fairly balanced mix. I just don't like having to play the courses twice to get the pictures. But aside from that awesome mix. And, keep practicing.

Yeah. This game is just too hard. You know what? You should just quit! :D Quitting is what all of the best players do! :D

[/sarcasm]

I started on 6th style CS before 7th was released... I spent a full day in beginner's mode before I moved up to L7. 6th style is my favorite style to start off with. :/
