Default Modded PS2 hates Happy Sky?

Strange thing happened last night, my modded PS2 (second model USPS2, I think it is magic modchip) decided NOT to run Happy Sky. Sometimes in the past I have had to reboot a few times, but 3-6 reboots or so will do it. Last night I stopped counting at 60 (!) resets, to no avail. I put in 10th right after and the damned thing loads on the first try! Same with Red. Anyone know what gives? This sucks, I mean, I know I need a new PS2 anyway (posted in the trading&marketplace already ), but why did my PS2 just decide to stop loading HS?

Wasn't there a thread about Happy Sky not loading on modded PS2s already?

I believe it was only concerning ones that use Swap Magic and the like. This is the first I've heard of chipped PS2s not working though. My Crystal Chip PS2 seems to run my pirated copy of HS just fine though, if it's any consolation or help.

That can't be completely right, there's gotta be something else that was causing those load issues. I run SM on mine and HS (along w/ Red, 10, 9, and 7) have loaded perfectly fine with no delay ever since the day I got each.

It's chipped too, no swap involved.....Matt (associated with the SHMUPS forums and building superguns back in the day) was the modder.

maybe the PS2 is just in its death throes?

Yes, I felt that somewhat worth mentioning (despite legal risk) since many seem to have problems with the actual disc.

My old Magic 3.1 chip works fine with a legit and burn alike, and I haven't heard anyone with a swap magic having problems with theirs either.

Well I probably shouldn't mention that I do have a backup of it, and if you download one of the torrents, you may have some trouble, but I did another and it works perfectly with my Swapmagic. But I am not recommending you do this do to the legality issues involved.

Mods, please don't do anything against me for this, but it may help in this case.

The only kind of burn I will ever use is a direct duplication ISO of the actual game disc I own. This is only to preserve the original disc. Any 'rip' you get off the net is IMO 100% untrustable, so I'd strongly advise putting a D-skin on your disc or using your own disc. The web is so difficult to trust now-a-days anyway.

Now now, we've got rather strong anti-virus and such protective programs now. Such powerful xenophobia shouldn't be needed. Besides, many sites dedicated to files such as the HS .ISO have a rather strict set of tools to prevent viruses from appearing on trackers and the like.

OP, I'm wondering, are you getting DRE's when you try to load up Happy Sky, or is something else happening?
