TBH I can't think of a single time that training has helped me. I wouldn't say it makes you worse but when you're playing on random modifier anyway (which does help you get better the fastest imo), why bother?

I couldn't do anything beyond 6 without AutoScratch before (say 6 weeks), but now I can pass stuff like VJ Army and So Fabulous!! . It's funny when you have a simulator AND a CS disc.

Actually playing IIDX is like playing a musical instrument, you can not play something fast, until you can play it slow. There are two parts to playinig IIDX, reading (patterns, and notes), and technique. When I got gold I was having a hell of a time passing sense 2007 on normal. I was not getting the scratch section at the end. I put the game into training mode, playing it about 2 times on -3 or so, figured out the pattern, went to -1, same thing, then passed it with 100% gauge in the game.
Training is great for reading, as that does not change with random, random is good for note patterns and technique. There are quite a few 9's that I simply can not read some of the patterns right now, and training is helping me with the 8/9 wall, along with just playing...

There are a few songs I did take into training mode and slow down, i specifically remember doing that with the (horribly charted) ending of Secret of Love. I actually spent a lot of time working on it in training, and I still can't really play it right, it didn't help at all.
It's pretty much the same thing I experienced every time I took something into training mode.
It's not quite the same as playing a musical instrument because you mostly play on reflex in 2dx, expecially if you start messing around with random and stuff.
As far as reading is concerned, you just get better at it with time. For the longest time I couldn't read the last section of Quasar [a] at all, but then one day (after a break actually) I just gave it a shot and could suddenly see the chords and patterns.
Honestly though, if you find that it really is helping you then certainly go for it, but as far as giving other people advice goes...well I've found that about 95% of players haven't really gained anything from training mode.

I play through a song as if I was on Free mode (none of the slow-down stuff). Once I'm through with the song, I look at the ghost notes (what I hit) versus the chart. If I can figure out whether I hit the notes early or late, I can usually pass the song.
The rest is practice, and getting your brain accustomed to a load of notes at once.

Total Tokens: 1,290.34 Donate Tokens | As a player with no CS styles...and no working emulators... I only play once a week at the arcade. As opposed to the 'long break' method, just play sparingly, and the breaks are put in automatically. I've never really had any option to do anything like training mode...so I just keep on playing...and I'm moving into the 9's around now. Accidentally tried Love Shine by picking our machine's Gold expert course (as in Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum). And I passed it without dropping more than 10%.
In short.. as with finding your own style, I think one must find their own way of improvement. Even if I could get a CS style...it'd never beat the arcade...so I think sticking with my training method works for me. I haven't even had my 100th IIDX session yet, so I think I'm progressing fairly swimmingly as opposed to some people who play it daily for a year.
Different strokes for different folks.
Furthermore..I've noticed the attitude among people is to judge a song by the actual difficulty level than the number/star rating. This seems to apply to many games ie. GH, GF/DM etc. where people See Adv or EXT and not the actual number rating. 55> 43 people.
Was reading LilRabbitToy's sig:"I suck, I can only play 5-7 Stars on Normal.... or Light7"
Dude...chill..by that token you should be able to play Hyper and Another 5-7's. Stoic and No 13. on (n) will always be harder than, say, Let the Snow Paint me (h/7keys)... and even between Hyper and Another... Murmur Twins and One More Lovely (h) are still far harder than Mobo*Moga (A).
People just need to get a fresh outlook...it's the important thing in overcoming yourself.

I never understood how someone could play light7s for over a year before trying any 7key charts :P

This helps well when you do lots of 11s (as well as hard 10s like Zenius). Sure it's tough but it really helps.
In fact, I'd never be able to clear Contract [h] without HARD mode on.
