Marketplace Rating: 1 | I didn't really learn how to time for years after I started playing. I passed my first 12 (maybe a few 12s) before I started being able to consistently AAA stuff.
It always felt like I'd never be able to get timing down, and then I just decided I was going to sit down and go through every track in happy sky on hyper and learn timing while I was waiting for Gold to arrive.
For whatever reason it finally ended up clicking for me. Before then I only had a couple AAAs to my name. My first was Beautiful Days 7key maybe a year after I started playing, probably got one or two L7s when I was working on timing after that (but I've never liked playing L7s at all. When I started out initially I just played 7keys, around 5s).
So yeah whatever. Try timing every once in a while, if it doesn't click after a good effort, don't stress and just go back to playing for new clears. Eventually it'll click.

Props for having HS be the game to teach you timing, - and yet still have good timing on other games. Idk, some people can adjust well. My brain just shits when I throw HS in.. And after like an hour when I get used to it.. I've already exhausted the song list pretty much. SO then i want to play a different style.. : /

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Oh don't get me wrong, the timing on HS is awful. But I was able to finally get a feel for where it was and play consistently. It's not like I permanently mastered HS timing or anything, I played briefly today and my scores were horrible :P If I sat down for an hour or so playing easier songs I could probably get back into it.
Either way, the skills transferred easily enough. I didn't like, have to relearn everything to score on other styles.

So what's so bad about Happy Sky? I like it, but hey, I don't really know any better. I am thinking of picking up a copy of Empress soon too.
Btw. I feel like I'm really rubbish at this series! I mean I have played a lot of music/rythym games before, (can finish almost every song in GH2/3/4 on expert). On BM though I have been playing for a few weeks and can only really beat level 4's. There are a few 4's I haven't beat yet, but I have beaten one level 5. I guess it's just a lot more brutal than games like GH

Happy Sky is very fun and playable, and has a great songlist.

Marketplace Rating: 5 | So I've been lurking these parts because I want to pick up a IIDX game, having never even touched them before. It looks hella fun, so I'll probably go the route of getting BMUS as well since the consensus agrees that's the best idea for us N00bs.
My main questions:
1) I was looking at the DJDAO controllers, and they look pretty goddamn official and I just want an arcade style experience, so would it be a good choice in getting one from them?
I'm not worried about how much they're worth, when I pick up a game, I do fully intend on putting 110% into it.
2) I love the songs in Troopers, if I picked that up I wouldn't be shooting myself in the foot in terms of difficulty, would I?

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Start with BMUS and don't even consider getting an ASC until you're at least clearing 9's or 10's.
ASC's are overkill before then.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | Yeah you need a KOC in order to get the full experience of the game. There a a few circulating the marketplace here for decent $$. It'll be hard for you to find them other places.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Great thread going on here, just thought I'd add my 2 cents..
If you get the KOC (or JKOC, don't know if theres much difference.. I got mine from play-asia) you better check around for how to mod it.. Don't worry, it's just about adding some coins under the buttons (if you find any thats the right size, or anything else that works) and sandpaper the edges of the buttons so they don't get stuck etc.. You will be happy as a peach you took the time!
Atleast thats how it was for me.. Before doing the simple mods I was shocked how bad the "official" controller was. Buttons keept getting stuck and I couldn't even finnish a level 3 song without the stuck buttons killing me. After modding, I could easily do level 5 songs with no troubles at all..
I don't really know tho, as I've never touched any (same/other) beatmani controllers before.. I might just have been unlucky?
