I will give out my standard newbie advice and suggest starting with an older mix like 6th or 7th though. A lot of players that start out on the newer interface have a really hard time getting past the old one. If you start on the old one it won't be an issue, and there are a lot of cool songs that haven't been repeated.
Additionally, Empress CS might be a good choice for you in the bang for your buck sense. Since you're new to the series it'd basically be 200 new songs for a little over the price of Troopers (which would give you 90ish)

Oh, am I going to have to worry about lag playing on a Plasma TV?

On another note, just got BMUS from Gamestop, boy is the disc in terrible shape, it kills my soul. If it works, it works though.

A friend of mine played for a month on an HDTV with BMUS and didn't notice the timing (he'd never played before), and had no trouble adjust when he got Gold and set the timing adjust correctly. Since you're not switching games you won't notice it as much. Make sure that if your TV has game mode, to turn it on.

Not trying to be a dick about it or anything, just my experience.

Your credibility in Guitar Hero means jack shit as far as skill in IIDX goes.

Marketplace Rating: 1 | yeah just fyi GH/RB timing is as wide as a barn, and doesn't follow the same method of timing as IIDX.
I thought GH/RB did their timing by frames, as opposed to IIDX which did it by milliseconds.
I could either be extraordinarily wrong or completely backwards on this.

I could either be extraordinarily wrong or completely backwards on this. | Well I'm not certain, but I also was under the impression that GH timing was in frames. One thing I can be pretty sure of is that the GH timing window got wider with each new game GH1/2 weren't too bad but by 3 and especially 4 it had become really wide, I guess in an attempt to make it more accessible and friendly to casual players. I didn't even bother with GH5 I am so over that series now
I will probably at least check out DJ Hero though out of interest. Anyone else on here planning to check it out, or is 'DJ Hero' Like a dirty word around here (and yes I realise that it's actually 2 words)

Marketplace Rating: 0 | Haha yeah the timing window on GH is reeeeally wide. I don't think it was as bad around GH1 and 2, but by 3 and 4 they had really widened it, I guess in an attempt to be more appealing and accessible to casual players. Kind of annoying though when you had worked hard to get good early on, and then all of a sudden any rhythm deaf 4 year old could strum and mash their way to beating expert.
I didn't even bother getting GH5 I am so over that series... Beatmania all the way!
Btw I will probably check out DJ Hero though just out of interest. Anyone else here going to check it out, or is that game a taboo subject on these forums?

Marketplace Rating: 1 | I'm kinda hype for DJ Hero. They got a sick songlist with originals by Scratch Perverts, Z-Trip, and Shadow <3
I played it at best buy, it's fun but not near as fun as Crackin DJ.
GH5 had one really fucking fun chart, it was Scatterbrain by Jeff Beck. Fun as hell, fortunately I got to play it at a Best Buy so I never had to even rent the game :P
