Default New PS2, New problem

Ok, I was looking around and didn't really find somewhere particular for this question. I figured here would be the next best answer as it gets the most traffic and, well....this game is the whole reason I do this =P

Ok, so I was sick of my bulky old PS2, and decided to pickup a slimline, used, for christmas. All the tags were scratched off so I don't have a model number or anything like that. Well, the problem came when I plugged it up, the swap disc (version 3.3) would not boot up.

Has anyone else come into a situation like this? I was searching around the net for some solutions, but...as conflicting and unreliable as information can be on the web, am reluctant to just go out and buy a new disc or whatever. Is there some issue with the slimlines that require a more updated disc, or some additional mod/tool?

I've found some instructions online and have taped down the sensors for the lid, so there's no problem there. Also, if there is in fact some other device I need, would anyone perhaps have a link to where I could pick it up?

Thanks in advance all for your help (and for reading this mammoth =P ).

How exactly did you tape down the sensors?

Does the PS2 still work with other games?

If the sensors really are taped down and the ps2 plays other games, you may need to either clean the cd (which Im sure you tried), or maybe the PS2 just plain refuses to read it...thats least likely but those lenses are really delicate and picky sometimes, and if this is used, the chances of that being true may be higher.

Yeah, it plays other games perfectly fine, and the disk...while in somewhat bad shape...does still run fine on my old 'fatty'. As for the taping, I'd found this site and followed it, just using a little electrical tape on em:

I came across some other info on the web saying something about the starting position of the laser in the PS2 vs the slimline. After reading this I checked it out, and the PS2 does in fact start the laser in the center while the slimline begins it on the outside edge. Would this perhaps influence it?

Haha a tutorial for such a simple process.

My slim runs swap magic 3.6 perfectly, no idea why yours doesn't boot though.

Just to remind you, never touch the laser. Ever. A lot of my friends say theres no problem in moving it but honestly its better to be safe than sorry.

Is this PS2 used? You may want to return it for another used one.

I know there was a compatability issue between earlier versions of Swap Magic and the slim PS2. I know Swap Magic 3.6 will run on slims, but I'm not sure on 3.3. I could have sworn we had 3.3 running on a slim, but maybe it only works on certain versions of the slim. Maybe someone else who has Swap Magic 3.3 can test that? Sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that.

yeah, most likely this is because the older versions of swap magic wont boot with slimlines...

Ok, that's honestly what I figured the most likely situation was. Frankly, it's the problem I'd 'prefer' too heh. Ok, so does anyone with 3.6 know of a site that currently has them in stock (or did the last you checked). I've searched a bit for it, and every site I've come across so far is calling a back-order...and we all know how long that could be.

(Don't worry about the laser, I'm not dumb enough to actually force it into another location =P )
