Well we played it.... He didn't understand it at ALL... but I just let him bang on the keys for a few songs... For some reason, he really enjoys Tonight. Don't really know why. He wanted to play it over and over. And he got upset when I turned off the game. I told him to look at the screen. I tried to show him the best I could but it was to no avail. Yeah, I know. He's only 8, but still... He said to bring it back when I came the next time... I plan on going on Saturday. So I'm asking... what should I do? I'm thinking of bringing it back. (I don't have my BMUS anymore). I mean, maybe he'll either get bored or catch on. We took turns playing the songs though. Next time I'll bring both controllers and play with him and maybe he'll see what he's supposed to do...
The reason I think he may actually be interested and not just pressing buttons is because he was actually listening to the music and kept trying to turn the stereo up really loud so... hey, you never know right?
Well, what do you think I should do. Any suggestions as to what I should show him as far as IIDX or anyone else try to bring a youngster into the Mania?

Chances are pretty low that he will really get how to play and with the steep learning curve and such i could see him getting tired of it. Considering the only songs he would be able to play would be 1's over and over again. So any serious attempt to try and get him to play probably wouldn't be very successful unless he wants to play again when he gets older or something. So yeah what Chemist and Trick said just bring it over and let him smash the keys and listen to music. Maybe playing it young will give him interest in it later.

I don't think it's that he was incabpible of paying attention to the notes, I think it was that he really didn't want to. He doesn't get the chance to play video games in general very often so I'll bring 13th and maybe 10th or 12th.... or 11.. I don't know. Well tahnks for your help guys.

Have you considered playing a few songs on Autoplay so he has some idea of what they're supposed to sound like and what he's supposed to be doing? Take it from someone who's been there...it's the music that's going to keep him going long after the novelty of banging out notes wears off.
Other than that, yeah, bring a little more variety and see how he likes that.

I dunno dude, he's 8. I'm surprised he even likes it. He sounds like he's doing a lot better than most kids would it sounds XD
When I showed my cousin DDR back a few years ago when I was really into it he tried it once, bitched a lot, complained about how I was too good and left.
Just bring the game over and let him play it. Then if he actually wants to get good, just keep beating song by song by song while he gets better. But he's only 8.
And if you actually want him to play it regularly, buy US again.

the only thing you can do is plant the seed and see if it grows...
