I saw this for sale at a local store for around $35 with a keyboard. It's a typing game, I gather, but is there anything special about it? I'm probably gonna pick it up this Friday regardless, but I was just curious as to what specifically the game entailed.

But yeah it's just Beatmania but with typing, kind of like Typing of the Dead but there's no zombies and the letters play music I guess. So, completely different.

There's some stuff in beatmania Da! Da! Da! that doesn't get repeated with other games, like a remixed version of Renai Revolution 21 by Morning Musume.
Kinda cheezy, kinda cool, not sure if its worth the $35 since we've progressed so far in the IIDX realm. At least you'll have a cool Konami branded USB keyboard.

The way it was recieved on the boards here made it sound less of a solid entry into the BM series as more of a neat little collector's item, more or less. Kind of like Typing of the Dead with music, isn't it?

And after a google search for it, I couldn't find anything at all about this game. Is it just a beatmania-themed typing game?

If anyone's interested (ASSUMING THAT IT HAS NOT VANISHED SOMEHOW BY THE TIME I GO BACK TO PICK IT UP D: ) I could record some gameplay and upload it somewhere.

in my mind i just see 26 columns for each letter to drop down in, but that would probably be impossible.

For the other half of the time, you'll be given a phrase to type out. You have to finish typing it out in the allotted time (a measure? two measures? it's been a while) to get credit for it. Yes, the lyrics are in Japanese but it's romanized so don't worry too much about that.
It's pretty much Typing of the Dead with a twist. A MUSICAL TWIST~

Total Tokens: 9,496.19 Donate Tokens | Ok. I have the game. Here's the scoop.
It looks.... old... really old.
The songs are ok, but some of them sound looped and stuff. They're right. Half the time it's letters, the other half, it's words.
There aren't that many songs either.
It's on a CD, NOT a DVD.
What makes this game cool is that you can actuall learn some Japanese symbals off of it. I'm not sure if it's kanji, hiragana or what. But it's still learning something. If you learn all the symbals, then you can look at the symbals instead of the letters below ehen the words scroll down. I should just see if I can do a direct feed of me playing the game and just talk over it as a video review. ... I should also do the same for Keyboardmania as these games are kind of hard to find indepth info on.
For gameplay... not quite worth it as far as beatmania.
For a coloector's item, yeah, it's worth it a bit... It's not really true beatmania though.
For a learning experiance, yes. It's quite worth it. I wish they would come out with something like this in the US. That'd be SO AWESOME! Better than Mavis. ... Anyhow, yeah. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I'll see if I can help.
