I mainly use my right hand, which sucks. D: It's hard to scratch because my hands are also kind of small.

If you just use your right hand on the keys, how does your hand size affect scratching?

playing with one hand has its coolness factor but you can play harder songs with two hands. My two handed style just looks strange.

I play Beatmania IIDX at the arcades with the right hand on the right four buttons and the left hand to scratch and the left three buttons. But it is tricky to do both at the same time though.

Haha, i love the tracing there, that's pretty cool.

Also, I think you should probably keep you hands parallel to each other.

That just looks very painful after playing a while.

Yes, that does look painful.

Thanks for all of the responses. I was kind of wondering if it was like a bar raping thing on DDR or something where playing with two hands is frowned upon. There needs to be more IIDX players near where I live!

I can only play up to 7s, but I try to use one hand if I can for the keys and the other for the scratching.

It's more the other way around. My problem hardly using my left hand is because I have to concentrate it on scratching.

Luckily for you, IIDX players are a different crowd.

As far as scoring and stuff, basically anything goes. HS is fine with us. "Shuffle" or random is A'ok, and both hands are basically needed if you plan on being any good.

The rules are slightly different because honestly, the game has a much steeper learning curve than DDR, so using things like HS and both your hands are a neccesity and usually aren't thought twice about.

I think it took me nearly three times as long to pick up BM/IIDX than it did for me to pick up DDR.

Two-handed, right side scratch. I've tried left side, but it's too unnatural a feel to me after playing BM only for so long.

Doubles is such a horribly foreign concept to me, at least until I can get another controller to practice with at home.

I play two-handed, right side. I think there is a huge difference between one handed play and two handed play, simply because of the added fingers. It's a lot easier to read the thicker charts if you have 9 or 10 fingers instead of just 5. I do use my left hand for most of the keys, but my right hand does a lot of the anchored stuff, when it's on the right side of the chart.

Two-handed, left side. I tried playing one handed, but I was sooo bad at it. I kept hitting the space inbetween the keys

takes awhile to get used to when you use two hands a lot. took me like a day just for my left hand to figure out which finger goes to what key.
