Default Order to get IIDX games

So I just got Beatmania US a couple days ago. I'm definitely having a lot of fun with it, and I know I won't be beating it any time soon (I just finished beginner and moved up to normal difficulty today), but the song list really leaves me wanting more. So I figure I'll probably import some of the JP IIDX's.

But wow, there are so many! Where to begin? 3rd Style and work my way up? I used to be really big into DDR back in high school, so I think I know a lot of the older IIDX songs.

Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks!

You should definitely get one of the older styles first.

I recommend getting either 6th, 7th or 8th.

3rd through 5th are ok, but they have poor interfaces and a few bugs and stuff, plus most of those songs have been revived in later styles.

After that go for any of the more recent versions, and then after that just go with whatever you feel like.

If you're just looking for a bigger list of tracks to play, I don't see anything wrong with getting Empress since it spans two DVDs and gives you more songs to mess around with.

But if that's too expensive, I don't know... All of them are fine really, although Happy Sky does have an inherent timing issue.

edit: you might be better off buying the older styles so you don't get spoiled by Sudden+ and .5x speed mods.

7th, 8th, and 9th all have a lot of DDR songs. Although I've no clue how available they are...

I'd start with Happy sky and work up. A lot of the older songs get repeated along the way.

if you have the money and dedication to playing iidx this would be the way to go since you wont miss any songs that you might like and you can appreciate the improvements which iidx has made along the way

otherwise just consult a song list and find the one which matches what you want the most

or search the forums and find all the beginner or newbie threads since they all have asked this question before

why would you tell someone to first buy a style with among the fewest amount of songs on a disc and limited gameplay options then immediately buy a style with the most amount of songs and the most gameplay options

why do you want him to go through the trouble of finding 4th Style only to wonder why he bothered to get 4th Style upon getting Empress

to enjoy the game for what it is and not miss out on what other people have experienced

It's preference really. Naturally, newer games have added features but there's something good and bad about all styles, I'd say.

CS General Info - RemyWiki

Also I recommend this thread as well

Yeah, I meant to have 3rd before those two. That's the order I did except Empress was DistorteD at the time. Plus, there are (probably, iirc) more songs he'd recognize from DDR/SM on 3rd than Empress. Also 4th is incredible soooooo yeah.

Also it kinda makes sense to go from an older interface to newer and not backwards.

I'd probably grab Troopers after Empress, then Gold, then DD > HS > RED > 10th > 6th > 8th > the rest
