You're missing out! But for those of us who do, you're very lucky. You're one of the few people who got the chance to play these masterpieces that failed on the market. They were decent games for what they were. Please, let's discuss only the Beatmania handhelds in this topic!!
How many different Handheld Bemani games have you seen? They range from Beatmania 1st mix to Best Hits 2000 to Tokimeki Memorial to Hello Kitty. They came in any color imaginable. Even DDR, Para Para Paradise, and Pop'n Music had handheld versions. I have roughly half of them. Why do I think the Handheld Bemani series was so cool?
-Each game came with headphones.
-There were a lot of mixes to choose from as stated above
-Each game had about 10 songs on it.
-Believe it or not, the sound quality wasn't THAT bad. It was similar to that of a midi.
-Most Bemani handhelds had exclusive songs.
-They fit pretty comfortably in your hand.
-They were better than the Bemani Gameboy games, song and play-style wise.
-If you got bored with the game quickly, you could use it as a stylish (albeit large) keychain.
So why didn't these awesome beasts catch on in the Bemani scene? Like Konami tends to do, they shoved out many new mixes in a short amount of time and the handhelds were stand-alone. At $20-30 a piece (when they first came out) for a small game with only a few songs, they just didn't catch on. They forever remain a part in the Bemani history though and we should appreciate what was and what could have been.

As for the Handheld Bemani series...I never got any of the series for Beatmania...but I did buy the ParaParaParadise handheld off Spork, and it's actually pretty fun to play. I wish they'd do a couple more, honestly. They're fun to fool around with.

As for the topic, I'm a collector of any and all little trinkets related to what I like, including bemani. Unfortunately I haven't spotted any of these handhelds in stores lying around. Loves me those Tiger handhelds though ^_^ | |

I have a copy of pop'n pocket still with the original blister card and it most definitely didn't include headphones, neither did the ones I got of either of the Guitar Freaks pocket games, and parapara pocket. I've also heard that some of the special edition beatmania ones were given out without headphones.
Regardless of that, for what they are the bemani pocket games are really fun. I've only played my pop'n pocket a couple of times (and I made line-out auto-play mp3s of it at one point haha) and I was surprised that not only was it pretty accurate in terms of gameplay and timing, the sound quality was way better than I expected.
