Total Tokens: 662.91 Donate Tokens | Problems with Scratch + 1 + 3 Well...I just started beatmania (for real) this week. I'm still playing Light mostly and I manage to pass most 6's (some with A) and some 7's. Thing is, I'm having SERIOUS problems when I have to hit (1p side) Scratch + 1 + 3. Up to now I have been hitting it with pinky on scratch, left thumb on 1 and right thumb on 3, but that means moving my right hand all the way to the other side, which makes me miss notes afterwards. My friend suggested index finger on left hand to hit 1, but I'm finding this to be pretty difficult to do. Can you guys give me some advice on this, please? I'm playing on a DJ-Dao FP7 btw.
Thanks a lot in advance, and sorry for the stupid question, it's just I'm really having a hard time figuring this out.

Personally I usually slide my left thumb between 1 and 3. YouTube - VOX UP [A] Clear Hand View

Unless your fast and able to use middle finger and index finger and hand scratch.

Total Tokens: 1,664,704,763.58 Donate Tokens | Recently I've been trying to get into a technique that involves pinky scratch and thumb for 1+3. I'd suggest trying use the meat of your thumb for 1 and the side of the upper joint on 3. I only really use this on rare occasions though, such as when my right hand is busy with other, more invasive things. Best example here would be Ristaccia [a] near the beginning, where it goes from S+1+3+5+7 to the short patterns on 2 4 6 then back to the S+1+3+5+7.
But in most cases, you'd be better off using your right thumb on 3. You said your problem was "moving your hand down" and causing you to miss notes; to that I say don't move your entire hand, just the thumb. Since you have plenty of other fingers on your right hand (I hope) you should be able to continue most patterns just by moving your thumb as opposed to the entire hand.

I don't mean to fully change your playstyle and only work the keys with one hand, I just mean that sometimes, it's necessary to be able to do certain parts of songs with one hand on the turntable, and the other on the keys. No, it won't be easy to do at first, but if you keep at it, you'll get better.

On a FP7 you may be able to play 1+3 with left thumb, but I never really tried since I play on a PEE and it's much harder.

Thanks a lot in advance, and sorry for the stupid question, it's just I'm really having a hard time figuring this out. | Well, different people have different approaches to what you are asking for. Hence you may get different results so it's best to find one that suits your needs IMHO.
Still, if you ask me, then here's how I'd approach it (playing on 1P side as well):
1- right thumb
3- right index
scratch/TT - you can use your whole left hard or any finger(s) of it

In other words I use my thumb on the 1 and index on the 3, takes awhile to get used to the crossover but it works.

seems every time i try to play a 12 with random, i'm getting a lot of these | Depending on how long or big your fingers are, extending your left pinky (whilst your left thumb is at 3) can be a painstaking chore if you are playing on a controller with arcade-sized dimensions.
Easiest way is to just isolate (based on the technique that DJ MASA uses)
scratch/TT = any part of finger of left hand
3 = right thumb
4 = right middle
5 = right ring
Actually, for keys 3 4 5, you can actually use any finger or any positioning you want with your right hand (it's up to you). The only key concept here is that your during these patterns (scr+3+4+5), your left and right hands must be isolated (left hand does scratch/TT; right hand does keys).
Hope that helps
