Default psx beatmanias incompatible on ps2?

i just bought beatmania 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mix off ebay and neither of them work in my modded ps2 or my friends jps2. i tried looking up this problem on google and yahoo but i got nowhere so i was wondering, is beatmania one of the few incompatible ps1 games on the ps2? cause if so, that really sucks....

by the way, im using breaker pro to try and play it on my modded us ps2.

also, if anyone is selling a beatmania controller (preferably dj station pro) let me know. thanks.

They're not gonna work even with the breaker pro..
Best idea is just to get a moded PSX & you'll be fine.

Maybe if you had a JPS2 it could've ran. Also check the Marketplace for anybody selling Station Pro's..

Can't say I've ever tried it personally, but I heard a while ago that if you rip the PS1 disk, you can patch the iso to PAL and then play it on PS2-- tutorial here. Not sure if it'd work, but certainly couldn't hurt to try.

You can't run them without the Beatmania 1st mix. When I had mine working I had to put in 1st mix then I think there's an option to switch to a different mix. Then you would just pop the top open and insert a different mix.

I could be wrong, but that's what I remember doing to play 3rd mix.

I believe that is correct. If I remember correctly, 1st and 6th+core remix are key discs. You'll need those to play the others...

beatmania Best Hits is also a key disc, if you are interested.

I have a question about compatability / append discs too. I have a J-Slim PS2 and was wondering if it is possible to be able to swap discs without having to purchace a replacement top for it? I would like to be able to get some append mixes down the line if I can.

Thanks.

I have a jps2 and have no problem playing the 5key beatmania games. Second Mix (I.e. beatmania) which comes in the larger 2 disc case (comes with another disc, can't remember the name now) is the key disc to allow the appends 3rd and 4th mix to work. You have to boot the second mix, at the bottom of the title screen is a disc change option, then in japanese you will see a screen that says "insert append disc" and the disc stops spinning.

I have never used a modded PS2 but I would think it would work. The issue with these games is that they are protected, the reason they will not run is epsxe either.

Good Luck!

I am not sure if your modded PS2 will work, but like all of the other posts said, make sure you are putting in a key disc first. If all else fails I say buy a modded PSX, or Japanese one. Japanese ones dont go for to high on ebay (usually under $100.00 including shipping), you just have to do alot of searching sometimes to find an auction.

I paid 110 for mine, but that was cheep at the time - I wonder if some of the other auctions have gone down in price?
