A simulator/other more illicit stuff, isn't a good substitute for the PS2 games simply because the PS2 is standardized and therefore won't have the problems inherent with trying to get your PC versions to work perfectly. It's not necessarily a waste of money, but you should really play more versions of the game, which can add to your overall skill set and make you appreciate the game more, and if after that, you still want an ASC, go for it. Especially with the way the economy is right now, you don't wanna be too hasty in spending several hundred dollars on a game you may or may not want to play a couple of months from now.

If the mere action of pressing Sanwas (they could just as well be Dao keys too) on a IIDX machine actually feels good to you...then I'd say go for it.
Some people won't give a shit. Some people will think "buttons are buttons, whatever." But if you get some actual visceral satisfaction, some tactile gratification from the spring reverberation, from the light and hollow "click", from the airy looseness of the buttons...then it is time to get an ASC.
Aside from the button porn, you should also ask yourself if IIDX is a game you want to dedicate a lot of time to. If you really want to improve, and can see yourself logging a ton of hours in the future to current styles and future styles. If you enjoy IIDX, that's fine, but to ensure you're not "wasting" your money, you should figure out if you wanna kick in your V-TEC, and go for pro. I'm no pro though. I'm just finishing up the harder 9s in Happy Sky through DJT...but I still gots me Dao as you can see in the controller thread.

But... that is a ton of money to drop for some keys.

back to addressing FP7 vs PEE. if you don't mind the shorter TT distance den its really fine getting the FP7, the buttons work the same way for both PEE and FP7. of course, its up to you whether you want to get sanwas or regular djdao buttons, both have its pros and cons.

Also, he asked about an adapter for the PC, so assuming that he's not talking about pirated copies of the game, he's gonna be playing more on a simulator and though they give you a good idea of what the game is, it's just not as good as the PS2 versions. That's why I suggested that he get more PS2 styles because there's no chance of them not working because it is a standardized piece of equipment, whereas the PC experience can vary widely.

Aside from the button porn... | OH BABY! I have to touch you! Oh yeah one and five, one and five. Scratch it! Oh yeah baby just like that. Mmm... MMM! Oh! Yes! So good! That feels amazing baby, let me try that again. Oooo! Yeah, now let me jackhammer... oh man I feel like I could go on forever... mmm... I'm going to be up all night just playing with you, pushing your buttons... Ohhhh yeah. I'm going to be sore tomorrow. Oh yeah...
...
I couldn't write that unless Lentic was completely right. Great buttons on an ASC are kind of like an excellent musical instrument or great breasts: What defines perfect varies, though the good is easily separated from the poor, and some people care a lot more than others, but to the connoisseur the added enjoyment from excellence is boundless. Yes, I just compared Sanwa's to Steinways to Busoms in complete seriousness.

Marketplace Rating: 13 | Okay, so I found this where I work, it's got a serial port and I get a pretty solid discount on it: Targus ACP45US Universal Docking Station with Digital Audio at TigerDirect.com
My question is, since it's a USB connection, is it going to lag?

If this is your best option for parallel, you should just pick up a ps2->usb adapter and use that.

Marketplace Rating: 2 | I used to play on a KOC and imo the buttons are terrible and hard to press. I got a DAO FP7 and the buttons are great and easy to press and make the game a lot more fun to play. As someone else said the FP7 has accurate arcade distance between the turntable and the buttons although the turntable is smaller. I prefer it being smaller and cheaper as compared to the PEE or RES, although I still can't play with the thing in my lap which is what I wanted to do.
Also, the controller is great for other games too, DJMAX, PIU, etc. I play more DJMAX and PIU with the FP7 then I do IIDX, so if you like other games that you can use the controller for then it will make more worth it for you to get it. If you have the cash go for it and resale value is always there although you will lose out on the shipping cost from DAO.

1 = Lower Left Arrow (z)
2 = Upper Left Arrow (q)
3 = Center (s)
4 = Upper Right Arrow (e)
5 = Lower Right Arrow (c)
It's good for helping your reading also as some of the songs are too tough to practice many times over using your feet. There are a ton of good sim files out there for SM or KIU (KSFs which can be converted to SM format), so I think there's more variety playing on the PC then the PS2 Exceed.

Marketplace Rating: 2 | If you can find the old Boom PSJoy adapters, those are great but it's probably not likely. I hear the EMS Trio Linker adapter is good too, but I've never used one, so I can't say for sure. I have no clue regarding currently available PS2->USB adapters that don't lag, there's a ton of them on Ebay but who knows if they're any good.
Just found a link for Trio Linker: Trio Linker Ebay Auction. Can anyone confirm this is a good one to use?
