I've always wondered this, what is the purpose of Double Battle exactly?

Double: One player plays both sides.
Battle: Both sides are the same.
Double Battle: You play two identical sides as one player.
That's how I would answer your question.

It could be played by one or two players. You have to be "LISU" to do something like that on 10+ Star songs.

Double Battle is basically just in there for fun and challenge. Like already said, it lets you play the one-player chart on two sides at the same time.

Using Mirror on one side to have the patterns be symmetrical is a bit of a mindfuck.
