Default Quick Question about IIDX 5th Style

I just picked up a copy of 5th style and I found an option for the HDD. I'm currently installing it to the HDD, and I'm wondering what does this do exactly? I'm on an NTSC PS2 with a flip top, so I can't have the real disc inside when i'm at the browser. Is it just to load the game from the HDD or is there anything else you can do?

It lowers load times and unlocks endless mode.

Does it have to be launched from the Harddrive for these features to work?

Not sure. I don't have one myself; I'm just parroting the information I was able to find online.

It's basically a big cache mode. If you have a HDAdvance, you can load your games onto it and eliminate virtually all load times from all the IIDX games, though some do run into problems when run from HDD.

No. The game knows the HDD data is there in advance.

To clarify, the "endless" mode is just a means of playing Expert courses without having the note-grade breakdowns shown between songs. It's not truly endless in that one song goes right into the next with no breaks whatsoever. To see what this is like, play 6th Style and hold down Start (or select, forget which offhand) while you choose an EX course. It will act 100% in the same way as 5th Style's does, despite having no HDD cache. This should let you know how worthless 5th Style's HDD support actually is.

Perhaps clearing all of Drill Mode would unlock everything?

Clearing Drill Mode isn't going to make an HDD suddenly appear in your PS2.

Whatever it does, it's not worth getting a harddrive specifically to do it

Nope, and like I've said, the whole thing where you play the EX courses with no note breakdown / result screen after the song is the so-called "endless" mode.

With the HDD data on, there is no seperate menu item called "endless mode" or the like anywhere in the game. The modification on the EX course play is the full extent of what you get.
