Default SaveTheArcades.com - Help Arcade UFO improve their Bemanis + Other Stuff

edit: well, help them out anyway

Help STRIDE Save the Arcades

Stride Gum has a contest where you play a flash game and donate the points you earn to an arcade; and the arcade with the most points gets $25,000 to spend on new games and so forth. Please play and donate money to Arcade UFO. Registering takes about a minute, and doesn't spam your email at all. The contest ends October 6.

Arcade UFO is one Texas' best arcades. UFO is the only arcade on this with an actual emphasis on Bemani, what with having DJMax Technica (IIRC they were the first in the country to get it), and a customized OpenITG setup with exclusive songs made by its patrons.

In general, they're one of the best arcades you'll find. The main emphasis is on fighters, and they also have lots of shmups. Arcade UFO is run by famous fighting game tournament player fubarduck (who is a member on these forums), and he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to fighters. They hold tournaments about once a week (last time I was there, they had a 2v2 tournament for that cool Gundam fighter that's sorta Virtual On-ish).

Anyway, I am hyping this up for you guys because right now, UFO is losing, and lately it has not had a very strong lead in general. As fellow Bemani fans, I am hoping that you will take some time out to play this game, and hope that we earn enough points to win this thing.

The game is tedious, I won't lie. All of us playing it hate it. Most of the people playing for UFO are trying to each earn a daily 1,000,000 points. Anyway, it's not hard to earn a lot of points in one go. Use joytokey and a controller to play the game with more precision. Pick a character with a shield and deploy the shield when a barrage of bullets comes your way, and you'll absorb them with no penalty.

If nothing else, play to help out a fellow forum member. Ryan (fubarduck) is a great guy who has worked very hard to make Arcade UFO into something so great in such a short time, and he deserves all he can get for his efforts.

Holy shit this game sucks, but I support your cause.

So I'll waste some more time on it. Good to see your in second place though... More IIDX in american arcades is always a great thing to strive for.

.....Although I can't promise I can take this game for more then a couple million points...

I'll be curious to see how it pans out

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, if you're bored or have free time please play a game or two and donate to ufo, this is really our only chance of getting a IIDX machine in TX (since san antonio's machine is gone). The regulars here in Austin have been grinding as much as we can and with a little more than a week left till the event is over things are really heating up and we could really use all the help we can get. Thanks

Arcade UFO - Austin, Texas!

Hey guys, the support is extremely appreciated but the thread title is deceiving. Arcade UFO has no plans to purchase a IIDX machine; not because we don't want to, but because there is no room to actually put the game in our arcade. To be honest, we'd have to get rid of multiple more profitable machines to make room for IIDX (which statiscally doesn't make that much money) and there's no possible way to justify that in our current location.

$25,000 can help us improve a lot of things at Arcade UFO. A few of the suggestions we're putting heavy consideration into are:

- A sound/amplification system for music on slower days and announcements on busy days
- HDTVs mounted on the walls to project popular titles for easy viewing (SF4, Gundam, etc)
- A newer Pop'n Music cabinet/revision
- A fully covered balcony upgrade
- Machine upgrades for our most popular titles: Gundam (Destiny -> Next), SF4 (SSF4), Blazblue: CS

These are all things that we'd like to or already intended to do, but might not be able to for a much longer time without a stimulus. If we're able to pull through and win the Stride contest, I can confidently say we'd be able to implement ALL of these improvements by the end of February 2010.

Again thanks for the support, and everyone's help in the final stretch is dually appreciated!
