Total Tokens: 1,348.23 Donate Tokens | So i'm in quite the delimma here. Theres these 2 people i know that play IIDX ok...
Player 1 can do 10's and a few 11's
Player 2 can do 8's and a few 9's, but almost always gets AA's on 6's and lower.
Player 1 can Hard Clear 9's
Player 2 can Easy Clear most 9's, but has Hard Cleared certain 8's.
Player 1's highest grade is AAA-6 and it was on some lv3 song or something.
Player 2's highest grade is AAA+9 and it was on Hell Scaper ~Last Escape Mix~ on Normal.
Player 1 has a habit of trying too hard to get higher grades.
And an extra set of information
Player 1 started IIDX about 3 years ago
Player 2 started IIDX about 7 months ago
So my two questions here are...
1. Who's progressed better?
and
2. How can i help Player 1 actually get higher grades without the slow and painful rage trip?
Oh, and chances are the person i labelled "Player 1" is going to read this so if hes got a problem with it i'm sorry but i'm tryin to help here...

Different people overcome these walls in different ways, some faster than others.
As for P1 getting better... Practice Practice Practice

I did however develop a completely "faith in yourself" based method of playing.
I turned off the Judgment Display, and the one that shows up on the right side by the video.
Then i proceeded to tape construction paper over the life bar, max combo display and money score displays, then turned off the score chart cause i had it on earlier.
Now he doesnt even know how good/bad he is doing, what grade he's getting or if he's still full comboing it.
If i could turn off the explosion, i would, but i cant... -sadface-
but strange as it is, it made him do worse...

If he goes back to the easier songs and basically grinds at it he'll understand how the rhythms and whatnot work and he'll be AAA'ing alot of songs really quickly. He just needs to not try and go too far ahead than where he's at for the time being.
I was the same way.
troll post: lol player 1 sucks at IIDX and should quit because he sucks.

Well he kept on telling me "if he sees himself do good then he'll try to do better"...So i told him "Fine, you wont see...at all..."
I eventually tune out everything but the notes and the color of the ghost marker right above the judgment.

Ghost C is decent because it's not on the board but I would just keep it turned off.

I still haven't seen him do that yet...

A 10 on Hyper is just as difficult as a 10 on Another.

Fortunately, going back to Normals to get back into the groove after long periods on not playing helped a whole lot like you said. Same with the whole thing of watching some players I introduce IIDX to progress faster than me.
I wonder if it was because my first IIDX games were 3rd-5th Style, which didn't have grades...

Rest assured that it will eventually click though, as long as he sticks with it. The way an individual progresses all depends on what they prioritize starting out.
